Day-to-day, shifting is at best, moderate, at worst, can't get it into 2nd/3rd/4th without about a 2-second pause.....not good when you're running a late 1990's vet and they are walking away from you.

Anyone else have difficulty with this shifter? Think I'll take it by my local Mustang Performance Shop (the heck with a Saleen dealer!...no help!) and see if they can get it to smooth out. Shifts nothing like my Viper which is damn near perfect. For the $$$ spent, I should at least be able to shift the sucker......got 5,000 miles on it and it hasn't gotten any better with time.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, isn't the transmission in the Viper and the Extreme the same form Tremec. Therefore, the only variables would be the clutch and the shifter. Both relatively easy fixes.

My understanding from others with shifting probs in '05+ cars is the way the shifter is mounted to car. The shifter is connected to the "body" of the car, and when the engine is under torque, it binds. There are many who have replaced theirs, but their is a bolt on part that supposedly corrects this issue. It holds the toque to a minimum so shifting is not a prob any longer.

Viper/Saleen1 -- Same problem here, so bought a K-member brace and torque limiters. Ordered my set from Piedmont Modular Performance. See following link for explanation of cause and how to fix!  http://www.mustangforums.com/m_1970635/tm.htm.  This should solve the problem.   Let me know how you make out 'cause I don't like hearing about you getting walked in any race for that reason alone.

Very cool - seems like a pretty simple bolt on mod that will solve your problem   Although my car is only an S-281, I might add this just on the principal features of this brace.

Viper, I sure hope this solves your problem as I hate to hear of somebody with such a FINE ass car thinking about selling

Have you guys called Saleen about this issue - wonder if they are implementing something like this for the '07 E's yet

sowaxeman: I hope you'll try it because it performs as promised and is a relatively inexpensive modification. As for Saleen feedback or support for these types of issues, they must be too busy or just don't care.

How much extra are these parts? I would take the car to the dealerhsip and leave it there. Tell them something is wrong with the tranny and you want it fixed. You might have to get angry, but I can imagine you already are upset. Its the same tremec T56 tranny that is in the viper and Z06 now. Only thing different is the clutch, shifter, and gear ratio.

If you plan to mod your car and get up near E horsepower range, then is stands to reason your engine/tranny will torque more and would benefit from this mod.  As stated here it is about $160 and appears to be a very simple bolt on mod.  If you can get your car up in the air on jack stands then you should be able to do it easily.  Even though its a new car and under warranty - the $160 bolt on fix is going to be SO much quicker and painless than going through a dealer   And according to a few in here and other forums/website, etc....it works
