I have a 98 mustang with about 67,000 miles. If I was to put synthetic oil into it would it cause any serious problems. I have heard that it causes leaks because of its effects on gaskets. What do you recommend. Is synthetic that much better?

I started putting synthetic in my 93 after about 100,000 miles and I have never had any problems with it (unless you consider my starter and alternator going out in the same week) but that has nothing to do with oil.

Seriously, I'v been running synth for over 90,000 miles and as far as I can tell it has been nothing but an advantage.

Put a K&N filtercharger on it with Castrol Syntec and you will feel the difference.

I also have 98 v6 mustang and I use synthetic without any problems. I was told however, not to go back and forth on oil like one oil change use synthetic and the next oil change use conventional oil. You should be fine. I could tell a difference in engine start up and cooler engine temperatures.
