I've got 17x7 rims with ridiculously low profile 205/40 tires. In fact, they're a little too low for my liking and I'm thinking about replacing them. For the new tires, is 205 the optimal width for 7 inch wide wheels or is there a better recommeded size?

i hate to break it to you, but those 17x7's are worthless, try going with a 225/50/17

The Rack offers a few tires in this size... (55 to be exact) THEY CAN BE FOUND HERE They will give you a taller sidewall for a better profile and less of a 4x4 look, and will also be wider, which will help with handling!

The tire size you have now is actually a lot smaller than what is recommended for your car and potentially unsafe. The smallest size that we recommend is a 245/45-17. Most of the tires in that size require a 7.5" width rim though.

Colin, you couldnt be any more wrong on this one. His 17x7's are fine... they just suck... He needs a 225/50/17, which ,those of us that have any kinda of clue about tires, is a 25.8" tall tire, only 2/10 of an inch taller than stock.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with his 17 x 7's.

The tire size he has now is undersized. I am unclear of what I was wrong about. I just offered a suggestion based off of our information.
