Okay Im Have a 1988 Mustang Gt 5.0. Its my first ford and i Love the crap out of it. It is the fastest car i have ever owned, and i was wondering if My car would stand a chance againt a Mitsubishi lancer Evolution???  My car isnt too special its all primer but im told it has had a few modifications  and a racing chip but i dont know what kind or really what it does. Can someone please help me. Oh yeah when im peeling out for like a block i love the throw back in you seat feeling you get.. Theres nothing better...

Hmmm....88 gt vs an evo?  depends what version.  Evo 8 would smoke you.  Its chipped?  I thought 88's didnt have computers.  Guys?  care to clarify this for me?

yea 88's have computers, but unless it was a california car it doesnt have mass air.  As far as how fast a Lancer Evolution is... I have no idea, but they are pretty damn fast on Grand Tourismo 3

Well the new evos consistently run low 14's, it would be a tough match for a 88 to keep up unless pretty modded. hope this helps. i have raced one in the cobra and it was fun, but i didnt spank him that bad.

In Motor Trend, test showed that the Evolution beat the Cobra
in a quarter mile, the Cobra was playing cauch up the whole time
due to the Evo's all wheel drive, haha lets give a V8 all wheel
drive and see what happens EVO!!!

those evos are fast from what i have heard, but i have a hard time believing a cobra lost to one   oh yeah..  welcome to the forum

a 2003 Cobra with the 390 hp V8 will in fact lose to the Evo, the Cobra just doesnt have the traction to keep up with the Evo off the line, (we all know the Mustangs have always been acceleration limited due to traction) and the Cobra doesnt begin to pull on the Evo untill about 30mph, and by then theres just not enough time for the Cobra to out power to Evo, the Evo has a faster quarter mile time, however the Cobra is traveling faster at the end of the quarter mile by several miles per hour, its a game of cauch up, half mile race the Cobra blows the Evo's doors off, dont get me wrong i hate imports, i went and looked at the Evo's at the dealer, i wasnt impressed, and i laughed when they said i had to take a little training course to test drive one, a training course to test drive a 4 banger? oh come on, my Mustang has more brute force and only has 2 wheel drive, im sure i can handle a 4 wheel drive 4 banger

i must agree off the line would be diffcult against an all wheel but catch one at a rolling start and its over i f*&%# hate imports also and i will never bow to one until he has beaten me across the finish line i love it when i pull up next to one with the little dirtbike pitch exhausted go carts they always rev when my wife is driving so i tell her to make the dual chambers rumble "thats right fool turn on your blinker"  only a few have had the balls to race they were civics and a couple eclipses lol the civics had the 2 ft' tall spoilers too LOL i love that cuz you know of course they need all that downforce in the rear for front wheel drive.   anwyay im getting way off the subject evo's without the stock turbo no prob with it, you may have some issues off the line.

I'd bet all im worth that the Evo can beat your OLD 2003 Cobra, your car is a very old car, the Evo is all new technology, dont think that just because you have more power that you can always win, your an idiot

Hey dumb*ss the evo runs 13.0 flat 1/4 mile times, yea it can run 0 - 60 in 4.3 seconds (wow by the way) because its awd, it also rapes a skidpad too, but thats not what we're talking about here now is it.  In addition, an Evo can't even pass an inspection in the US, yea its light but thats because it doesnt have the quality crash ratings that even a Geo Metro has.  Here:


2003 Cobra =  0-60 4.6 sec, 1/4 mile 12.4 @ 114


Evo =              0-60 4.3 sec, 1/4 mile 13.0 @ 106


So before you open your mouth and hurt yourself, just remember that a 12 second car is faster than a 13 second car no matter if your a ricer or not.  I think you owe somebody an apology.  By the way, here is a source for each car if you wanna tell me I'm wrong:

I dont care about your sources, my sources come from car and drive and motor trend, and besides i've seen stock Evo's out run stock o3 cobras at the track and on the streets, the cobra wins from a role but i've never seen anyone able to get the cobra to hook up enough to beat the evo in the quarter mile

Well, from what I have come up with, motor trend only tested a convertable, and their drivers suck too, and the only "magazine" 1/4 mile time I found for the Evo WAS from car and driver, and its a low to mid 13 second car everywhere else, so I was doing you a favor.  Now you are officially my b*tch.  You can't get out of a hole with a shovel. mdvaldosta37897.5631481481
