I have read conflicting reports on this topic, so I thought I would ask it again.

I have an 86 GT with a 5-lug conversion. I am wondering if a 245/45R17 (Nitto 555) will fit on a 17x9 Bullitt rim without looking like the tire is too small for the rim. My original plan was to put 275/40R17 Nitto 555 R drag radials on the back (already done, and looks good) and 245/45R17 Nitto 555s on the front with a 17x8 rim. The problem is the chrome bullitt 17x8 rim is on back order until probably February, so I opted to go 17x9 all the way around instead of waiting. I don't want rubbing problems, so I am thinking the 245/45 tire on the front, but am concerned that that size is a little small for the 9" rim. Nitto's web site says the 245/45 can be mounted on a 7.5" - 9.0" rim.

Thanks

245's will be just big enough get 255's or 265's as insurance against the curb

I agree, it will safely fit but will be stretched and not leave much rim protection.

I agree. I was thinking about 255s, but should I get 255/45s or 255/40s? The 255/45 looks like it would be closer to the correct tire height, but for some reason the Nitto 555s are $45 more for the 255/45 compared to the 255/40s. $125 vs. $170. Will the 3/4" diameter difference be a big deal? The rear tire diameter is about 25.75" The 25/45s would be about 25.85 and the 40s would come in about 25.1". Thoughts?
