SexyFStreetRacer 09-29-2004, 01:17 PM Hello anyone, and everyone... This is my first post, I have a 99 cobra mustang convertible... and I must admit ... It's one sweet ride.... However ... I was reading some info on blueovalnews.com about Ford's Crash Test's, and was shocked..... This is a must read for all mustang owners.....am I always the last to know...lol
I would like other mustang owners thoughts on this......
mdvaldosta 09-29-2004, 01:22 PM A link to what your referring to would be nice... I do know our cars have a roll bar behind the dash
1381StangGT 09-29-2004, 01:57 PM I saw that the coupe was rated by the NHTSA as 5 stars on frntal crash and 3 stars on side impact. Verts obviously tested lower on side impact. This was on an 02'

MikeHawke 09-29-2004, 03:15 PM I don't know about front impact specs and hopefully I will never have to find out.
I do know from experience that they will take a sh!tkicking from the side and still keep on ticking. Mine was hit by a small truck about a month ago right in the middle of the passenger door (looked just like the side impact tests LOL). Obviously, it needed a boatload of bodywork, but she was still perfectly square and the door didn't come TOO far into the car and stayed latched....if there was a passenger, they prolly would have lived. Better than many wrecks I have seen.
Redline03GT 09-30-2004, 11:39 AM Thats the risk you take to drive such a wonderful car.
AtlanticBlue99 11-08-2004, 10:40 PM I have a 99 V6 stang and the crash test results are on www.msn.com they have links for cars and specs and stuff. 5 star front, 4 star side crash tests

04ShakinSteed 11-10-2004, 12:24 AM Well, how about a link to the info???
ajmstang 11-14-2004, 01:26 PM I had a front end crash about a month with a 2001 Mustang and it protected my son ( 12 ) and I. The car was totalled and all I had was a broken thumb. Bumper/frame and hood took the brunt of it. Both fenders were still straight. The seat belts and aribag did exactly what is was designed to do. Saved lives.
I have a 2005 on order.
iwrxit 11-15-2004, 07:32 PM thanks for wearing the safe belt. they really do save lives.
Drews StanG 11-24-2004, 01:18 AM Does anyone care if the mustang failed a crash test? i love my stang!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AtlanticBlue99 11-25-2004, 01:32 AM yea man, buckle up. my brother had an explorer last yr, and some idiot hit him when he was just goin 45 on a busy road in our town. the guy that hit my bro hit him in the right rear wheel. the explorer flipped 4x and was totaled. the rear bench seat flew out the car through the rear hatch window. it was nasty. bro was buckled up, went to the hospital to get some glass out of his body. the 5% tint held most of the window together though. moral of the story, buckle up.
AtlanticBlue99 11-25-2004, 01:32 AM which year stangs failed the test and who was giving the tests??
blank 11-25-2004, 01:48 PM a mustang wasnt made for safety it was made for spped and though safety does get involved speed is still what ford wants out of a mustang
neogenic83 12-11-2004, 05:28 AM if u want a safe car buy a volvo. u don't buy a mustang for safety for creature conforts
me alot fast than u 12-13-2004, 05:50 PM hell no car is really safe let's face it....those test are just bullsh!t..how many times is a crash head on...it's more from an angle....some car makers do the test but it's not required[:o]

It was a slide?? all 4 tires locked up especially for a period of time the airbags probably wont go off. also have to set off a number of sensors at one time and other gay requirements that make airbags unreliable.. that is why you still buckle up, that and the fact that an airbag wont keep you inside the car and an airbag is more likely to kill you if you don't have your seat belt on.

I belive frontal air bags only deploy if your hit in the front end and if its over i think 12 or 15 mph
Wessy 03-03-2005, 08:07 PM How did the early model hold up? Are they tanks like every other car built in the era?
rednblackdawg 03-03-2005, 11:37 PM That is the reason my insurance guy said Mustangs were so high. It is not totally because they are sports cars. It is due to their safety rating. Did that stop me from buying one? NO. If I was wanting to buy something to be safe, I would have bought a box of condoms.
Higgie 03-04-2005, 12:48 AM Did they cover the 05 Gt as well??

Don't they throw those in on one of the Big $$ over MSRP sales ?? [sm=lildevil.gif]
92hatchLX 03-20-2005, 10:29 PM Most fox bodies did pretty good.
01harleydude 04-01-2005, 06:36 AM my wife has had three mustangs. a red 01, white 02 and now a red 04 conv. she hit a telephone pole on christmas eve of 02 in the red 01 doing about 25 mph. she walked away with a bruise from the seatbelt and no other injuries. the telephone pole didn't budge and the car was totalled. now she won't drive anything else.

The Older Stangs I think did okay from everywhere but the rear end hard hitting collision.....because the rearend collisions have been know to break the gas tank open and spray fuel threw out the passenger compartment which is then saddly to say usually ignited into a ball of flames.....some people have surrvived, barley.
That is way you can buy and steel reenforced trunk divider plate for the pre-69 mustangs.
Tony
Kyle83 04-17-2005, 01:40 AM well maybe if you have a convertible mustang, then your dead in almost any crash that involves flipping, but besides, if your worried about crashing then your obviously not a good enough driver to be driving a powerful mustang. or else just get the puny 2.3 Litre and puddle along
jelam 04-21-2005, 02:23 AM I know this is an old post but oh well
If you have your seatbelt on and your air bag works right then it can save your life. I was in a wreck (not a car thank god) at 50 mph and hit two horses. The doors to the truck wouldn't open i couldn't see over the hood and of course i had lost my mind. After kicking the door open I looked at my truck and thought my uncle was gonna kill me. Then thought hey I'm lucky I've seen wrecks that the cars involved didn't look anywere close to my truck and had deaths.

redass02gt 05-04-2005, 05:28 PM you guys know that commercial (for nfl tv or directv or something)where the guy is watching sports on tv, dies, goes to heaven and he's in the same situation, sitting in his recliner watching tv again when he gets to heaven? That's probably what it's like if you crash and die in your stang, you just go up to heaven and you're driving your stang again. who knows if my garbled english makes sense.
