View Full Version : sub frame connectors for vert
ebxgsxr 11-30-2006, 05:00 PM ok, im looking to stiffen up the car a bit, and i hear that i should start with subframe connectors. for vert specific models, what's some fo the ones you guys went with (that have them)? i know when putting them on, everything should be level. so im going to start calling around. also wondering what kind of price range i should be looking at? i dont want to get ripped off either. i have a 92 gt vert basically all stock (although i have ford "c" springs that havent been put on yet), and im in the MD area. thanks guys.
chath_brick 11-30-2006, 05:06 PM i'm going to use maximum motorsport's weld-ons when i do it, i emailed them and they said the ones for a hardtop and 'vert are the same. i have a '95 though so i'm not sure about your car. that is the best thing you can do to stiffen your car up though. just make sure you get the weld-on kind, not the bolt ons. and make sure the car is on the wheels when you weld them on, not on a lift, because you want the car sitting in its natural state when they get welded on (this is especially true for a 'vert).
iamvillani 11-30-2006, 05:27 PM yeah they are the same....but i know on the verts you have to grind off a rivet or something on one end........im looking into blue oval industries sub frames, upper, and lower control arm package for 165 plus shipping. I know they are prob not the best but im not going to the track or anything.

TwotoneVert 11-30-2006, 06:55 PM Mine were already installed when I bought the car. I agree with Chath, dont get bolt on's.
deadsexy383 11-30-2006, 07:15 PM i went with steeda subframe connectors from americanmuscle.com...they were only like $140 with free shipping and they are welded
jacrockett 11-30-2006, 07:31 PM Welded subframes a must. I have MM, and they work great.
Here's a pic:

88ragtop 11-30-2006, 08:10 PM Yes you will need/want to weld them. I have Kenny Brown connectors. Really helped stiffing up my Cov. Their a must!
ebxgsxr 11-30-2006, 08:42 PM ok, so i have heard that MM connectors are really good. but like iamvillani, i was checking out the ones from blue oval. now do you really think there is much difference? essentially arent they all just metal that adds rigidity (is that a word) to the body? just seems like the kit from blue oval adds more for your money since it comes with the control arms. any other input would be appreciated.

Different connectors with the same grade of Steel, same x-section and wall thickness, welded properly, will stiffen the car the same.
However, given a choice, I perfer to stay with on manufacturer... better chance that future mods will actually fit properly. Since MM sells virtually EVERY Mustang suspension product you could ever need. I recommend MM.
vt89gtvert 11-30-2006, 09:29 PM Blue Oval industries has a pretty good package on E-bay for rear control arms (Upper and lower), and SFC for like $200 or something like that. If you are going hard core I don;t know that they would be the best, but for us that don;t visit the track very offen it is not to shabby
ebxgsxr 11-30-2006, 10:07 PM yeah that's what i was hoping. i doubt ill ever go to the track. this is just for "my driving enjoyment", lol.
tokinGLX 11-30-2006, 10:13 PM i put subframes and a roll bar in mine all at once, that helped IMMENSELY. went with maximum motorsports for both things, had no trouble with either install, tho we did have to bend the subframes about a half to full inch for an optimal fit.
ebxgsxr 12-01-2006, 12:11 AM now those of you that do already have subframe connectors, do you have regular or full length? any major benefits or problems by going with one or the other? i found a local place to me to do it for about $212.
tokinGLX 12-01-2006, 12:58 AM not much point in not getting the full lengths. youre in a vert, so you need all the chassis stiffening you can afford.
ebxgsxr 12-01-2006, 01:21 AM cool. when i called the place earlier today, the guy said the price was for the full length connectors. ill call them back to make sure tomorrow, and if so set up my appoint ment...unless you guys think that the price is too high?
tokinGLX 12-01-2006, 03:09 AM it never hurts to call around before taking it some place. at least get a couple other quotes

wow, i called another place today, and they said $500 for it all.another place said $140 for the connectors & anywhere from 84-120 for install.
vt89gtvert 12-01-2006, 09:30 PM I have heard of muffler shops installing SFC's for like $50. They have a lift, and it only takes them a little while to weld them on there.
ebxgsxr 12-01-2006, 10:20 PM really? ill have to check with a muffler shop that works with my shop and see what they say. thanks for that info.
7upedition 12-02-2006, 11:54 AM Maximum Motorsports XL weldin's, the difference is very noticeable, they run $150 for the powdercoated ones, plus weld them on a drive on lift if its accessable and be sure the top is up and the doors, trunk, and hood are all shut and the windows are all up.

It would make that big a difference if the windows and top was up?????
ebxgsxr 12-02-2006, 11:21 PM what place are you guys getting the full length mm connectors?
ebxgsxr 12-06-2006, 01:35 AM ok the local place, which was referred from this site, is kinda pushing me away from the full length subframe connectors. when i called back he said the one's he has will be more than enough for my car. never had a place trying to talk me out of spending more money (since the full length would cost more). does this make any sense? should i go with what he's saying? im sure the regular subframe connectors are better than nothing, but am i really going to notice a difference between full length & regular? keep in mind, i'm not going to the track to race my car. just basically for my enjoyment when driving.
ebxgsxr 12-09-2006, 10:42 PM no one?
Poobs 12-10-2006, 01:21 PM What is the price diference between them ?
Can you post pics or links to the two subframe types ?
If the local shop is also going to install them, they may feel it is too much of a pain to install the full lenghnt ones .....
TwotoneVert 12-10-2006, 02:19 PM I dont know, I like the full length. I dont understand why he is steering you away from them. Did he give any explanation?
ebxgsxr 12-10-2006, 09:46 PM no. he just said that i didnt need them. and what he has was good enough. his were running $90. the MM full length are like $120 with $30 for shipping. but there are a couple from blue oval on ebay for like $80 & $30 shipping for the full length.
fordman222 12-11-2006, 01:04 AM How about these www.mrt-direct.com (http://mrt-direct.com/mustangracing/kennybrown.php) designed by Kenny Brown gotta be good.
ebxgsxr 12-12-2006, 08:35 AM i am assuming those are like the ones this place is selling. i think im going to just get the full length from blue oval and find someone else to put them on since this place doesnt want to do what i was asking.
TwotoneVert 12-12-2006, 12:05 PM Good Plan.
wildsurfer92 12-14-2006, 11:47 PM i just got subframes on my vert...$26 dollars for 20 feet of 2x3 tubular steel.. and the shop cut, installed, and painted them for 350...and im in maryland for whoever said they were earlier...they made a world of difference...as does the strut tower brace
88droptopgt 12-28-2006, 09:20 AM Great thread folks. This will be one of the first mods on my 88 vert when I get it!
jjfrehe 12-28-2006, 03:08 PM Im having Steeda connectors put on today. Ill definitely reply back with my "review".

that can really FUK up your ride, the weld ons need to be placed with weight on all 4 wheels, the 4 point will cause flex, then you weld them on that way.. and youre in BIG trouble
