1. Press clutch and hold it to start car.
2. I try to shift into 1st,2nd, or reverse, and it grinds but goes in.
3. The clutch is still engaged. Never let go. and the trans is in gear.
4. Now i put the trans in neutral and shift into 1st, or second and no more grinding.
it seems that on when i let go of the clutch and engage it to shift into gear is the only time when i hear the grinding. Yet if the clutch is kept engaged theres no more grinding.
I bought a new clutch 5 months ago, new adj.clutch cable, triple hook quadrant, and firewall adj. w/ Hurst shifter.
Alot of people tell me it's the throwout bearing but i think it time for a new tranny. maybe a six speed.
Or maybe it is the valvoline max life ATF fluid i used to change the oil of the tranny when i did the clutch install.

Does your clutch grab at the floor? If so you need to tighten up the cable it is not releasing enough. The pilot bearing can grab the input shaft and turn the trans with the clutch released. Your syncros could be bad too.
if it was a pilot bearing it would do it even if he left the clutch engaged, same thing if the clutch was miss adjusted... my money is on the syncros bro... and a t-5 can handle a 10sec. car if you drive it right

WRECKED as of 2/12/07 10:45 PM. rebuild is complete
Please don't replace your tranny before verifying that your clutch cable freeplay is properly adjusted. I had a similar problem going into reverse--even after selecting another gear first. It would grind every time. Then I took a little slack out of my cable, and the problem disappeared completely. Check it out.

twisted, reverser should grind unless you put in into 1,2 or 5, reverse does not have a syncros thats why it grinds (little t-5 trick) thats why the owners manual said to go from 1st to reverse with you disengaging the clutch, and yes some times asjusting the clutch better will help (clutch stops spinning faster)
i agree tho check and readjust the clutch first (always to the free things before you spend money but my money is on the tranny being almost ready for a rebuilt
send it here send it here LOL

I currently have to put mine in a gear 3rd to 4th then in Reverse. Maybe I need to check my cable.
