Near my house lies a '86 black svo that has been sitting in the driveway slowly rusting for about four years. It has cloth seats, minimum rust on the rear hatch (I live in North Carolina), and pretty good paint. The car body is in great shape overall. However, the engine has a broken piston does not run. As it sits, the owner is asking $2100 but is offering another supposedly good 2.3 engine for an additional 300 and also a bunch of extra parts (new hatch, spoiler) for 600. This seems a bit steep for me for a car that does not run, especially considering i'm about to enter college. Is this car worth buying (and at what price) and selling my 6cyl 67 coupe? Thanks.
id say its all worth it. dont go and sell the 67 though. thats a find also. since its an 86 its worth more also. as long as all the turbo parts are there, and the other motor is really good, and the body and subframe are in good shape, and the interior is good, its worth it. personally i would keep the 67 though. its gonna be worth more now, cause so many are/have been wrecked. i would give my SVO for a first gen stang anyday. oh, and make sure the stock suspension upgrades are still good. if it has been modified heavily, its not gonna be worth as much and its not as cool cause its not a stock rare car.
thanks for the advice, i think i will keep the ol' stang. It turns out the owner needs a reliable car and wants to trade me straight up for our '96 taurus, which i am happy to oblige. Personally I think its win-win.
that sounds like the best bet. so long as you have a good winter car other than the taurus. as soon as you get a chance, post up a bunch of pics of the SVO. projects are always attention getters in the forums, so help should be just a click away. good luck!
