One other thing, I can hardly stand the sound of a Ford V8. It's that odd ball firing order that gives it a dump truck engine sound. Hate it!
I really dig Mopar and GM V8's due to not only their comparable durability and HP/lb. of weight but the firing order 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 just sounds crisper and doesn't have that obvious miss note in between each group ( all 8 cyl's) succession like Ford's do. Also, I hate 90 degree V's. What a waste of space.
However, the 4.0 reminds me of the early small block Ford 289 HP engine. And as you know the stock 4.0 already puts a whoopin on a lot of pre-S197 GT's. ;-)
wowzers! i never thought of that stuff! i'm still new to this. i guess it all goes back to 'to each his own'. . . you realize now that i'm going to obsess over the sound of the firing order and it's ALL YOUR FAULT

Update.........I've driven my car for a week now after having the TSB done and I am proud to say I am thunk-free!!!! Wow is it nice to drive. Like everyone says, it just feels tighter and way more solid. Thanks again to everyone that helped to get this resolved. Just installed the Ford Racing axle-back exhaust too and it sounds great.
I just brought the TSB into my local Ford Servie Dept. They said I need to make an appointment to have the car driven and then inspected up on a lift by a tech. before any parts are ordered. I have no idea what they expect to to see up a on a lift, but I made an appointment for this Friday. I don't really see what there could possibly be to debate over. Ford issued a TSB and had new upper strut mounts designed. Clearly, they wouldn't have had new parts designed if the old worked properly. My car has a build date of 04/07. I suppose it's possible Ford used the newly designed strut mounts on the late production '07's, but I seriously doubt it since the TSB was issued after my production date. I'll keep you posted.
Well, I just got my car back and I am very pleased. The driving experience is much better. As much as I tried to convince myself to live with the clunking, I just kept on finding myself trying to listen for it. I ended up calling another dealer and they ordered the parts for me just by simply referencing the TSB. They called me a week later when the parts arrived and I made an appointment for this morning. I picked up the car tonight and could see the new mounts under the hood. I marked the old ones with a perm. marker so I could be sure they swapped (I don't trust car dealers). However, as soon as I pulled off the lot and drove over the curb I could tell the car was better.
Thanks to everyone that pushed so hard to make this happen. I enjoy my car so much more now.

I just want to give another big THANK YOU to all those who worked so hard keeping this post updated and trying to figure this thing out.
I had ordered the parts a few months ago to install them myself (did not feel like hassles at the dealer, but that was before the TSB finally came). I finally put them in a few days ago and I have joined the "thunk-free" club! It seems pleasantly strange to not hear all that thinking and rattling, the car sounds solid like it should.
My car is in the shop today and there looking into doing the thinking noise tsb. The problem Im having is they want to charge me $92 labor since I wanted them to install my dspecs and eibach springs when they do the tsb. I have stock struts now with vogland spring. Tech said its alot more work to switch to the new spring and struts compared to just doin the tsb. What can I do?

if i were in your shoes i'd pay the $92 and consider myself extremely lucky! if you had somebody else do it, or did it yourself, you'd either pay more than that in labor or miss work [or whatever you'd do otherwise] installing that stuff yourself.
i'm taking my car in tomorrow or friday to see if they truly did install the correct new strut mounts. the car is still clunking and it drives me crazy just like it did all those thousand dollars ago when i bought it and when i tried to replace all the suspension components with no luck. . . can't wait to get rid of this stupid car so i can focus on building a track car.
Hey yall, I see the thunking thread is still alive. Sorry you're having so much trouble Northy. It sucks that you can't get rid of the racket. Best of luck on the new mounts. I hope that your problem is the mounts for your sake ;-).
Has anyone received an email from MF regarding signature / picture size? I see a lot still have theirs up but others have removed theirs completely. What's the deal? I mean I have been using the same picture for months now. Evidently someone whined about the size and now we're all being asked to reduce our sig. pics. in size. Doesn't seem like a problem to me. What say you?
Wolfey2k Still thunkless! ;-)

I'm not sure but I think I have the same problem and have since the car was new. My 05 GT makes a thunk noise when I cut the wheel sharply and move at low speeds. For example I back out my driveway, cut the wheel and hear a distinct thunk that sounds like metal on metal. The first few times I thought I had run over something.
What is the 800 number we all need to call and complain to?

hey craig, there's already a tsb and newly designed strut mounts that have fixed many a mustang. you may have one of several problems. the first is that there was a tsb in 2005 for 'popping' in the strut. this is slightly different than the 'thunking/chuckle' noise [although it may be caused by the same problem i don't know]. this later tsb has a different title and number. this thread is too long for me to remember where all the info is, but just look at the collection of TSBs either on this forum or one of the other mustang forums. basically, you may be covered under warranty and get a free fix or you may have to pay for it, but at least there's an answer for you one way or the other.
I had this problem after attempting to "tighten up" all of my front suspension components. You MUST hold the end of the bolt on the front upper strut swaybar endlink mount while tightening the bolt. I just attempted to tighten the bolt w/o holding the end and it started making the sound. I think that it IS a manufacturers defect w/ the front strut. Even the SLIGHTEST bit of looseness in the upper strut mount bolt will cause the sound. I think the solution is to replace the front struts but it is kinda annoying that Ford designed something like this....
Hmm, doesn't your pony have the 6 year/60K bumper to bumper coverage from Ford? Mine came with a LIFETIME warranty ;-). Have only had to use it for the thunk TSB so far. My ride is cherry and in perfect order thank god! I'd hate to be in your shoes man. It would be f*kin pi*sed off about multiple problems like that! That kind of stuff wreaks of LEMONS to me! Saw your other thread. Bummer! Hope you guys get all that stuff handled. Good friggin luck :) Wolfey2k

My 07 GT has the same clunking noise that comes from the pass front strut. I just had Dspecs with roush springs installed by a certified ford tech and it makes the same noise. also I have a strut brace and a arm brace. It annoys the crap out of me. I live in the Detroit berbs and the roads up here are horrible ( potholes that can swallow a import!) I am moving to Wisconsin in a couple months, hopefully thier roads are smoother and I can get on with my clunk free life! I will most likely try to replace the sway bar and links with some quality parts next. Cross your fingers.

Connections in the parts dept. at the dealer I scored the updated mounts(Per TSB) and returned the defective ones when I put in my Dspecs and ProKit. Noise is gone. Its like driving a new car!
