I showed my dealer the tsb from this forum and parts were ordered and will be installed next week.   No questions asked.
That's the way it should be.   You shouldn't have to haggle with the dealer when you are waving a TSB right in front of their face.

So I brought my thunking Mustang back to the dealrship again, this time with the TSB in hand.  I just took 2 service writers for a ride and both agreed there was a noise in the suspension.  Both also claimed it was normal noise and that the TSB was not for that noise.  They said the TSB was for a more metallic sounding noise.  Nowhere in this thread has the word "metallic" ever been used.  The one that said he was the service manager said he would do more research and if he found that this TSB was for this noise they would be glad to fix it.

Bascho!!!! Help!!!!!

Yea. This is when you need to call in the enforcer and have him cut one of their nuts out while the other one watches it being done. I hate pricks like these two.

It just makes no sense to me.  First it's a "natural characteristic of the car".  Then it's "they can't reproduce the customers concern".  Now it's "that TSB covers a different front end noise".  WTF!!!!  How many different front end noises do a brand new $30,000 Mustang have???  What do I have to do to have an obvious problem fixed?  How many times do I have to bring my car back to this lame dealership?  I guess I have to start over with another dealership because now I feel like they're just sick of hearing about it from me and I don't trust them.  My first brand new car and I have to deal with this BS!!!!  I should have kept my 97 GT.  It was paid off.  Sorry.  I am just so pissed that I could...........(insert whatever you want).

If it were me, I would keep going back in until they were tired of me. That, and call Ford.

I just got the call from the dealership.  It looks like they're going to hook me up.  The parts are on order and I have an appointment for Friday.  So hopefully by Friday night I'll be thunk free!  I'll post after I get it back.

depends on your dealership.  not a great answer but true.  if you have the time go ahead and go back to stock.  most importantly return the tune to stock if they are going to mess with the computer [they shouldn't be near it but who knows?].  if your dealership is that concerned with CAI and reprogrammed computer, go elsewhere.

Just to let you all know. I have mods under my hood. It's a CAI system. I purposely took my pony into the dealer where I purchased it without telling them a thing about my mods. They installed the new upper strut mounts (Ford calls them brackets for some stupid reason) and they made the repair under warranty no questions asked. In fact I received a complement from a few sales people and the shop foreman regarding the mods. ;o). They really seem to like our 4.0's with duals.

I know some dealers are staffed by people on 'stupid' drugs and they give you a hard time just because they want to feel they are in control. Simply persist and eventually you will win the battle and they will make the repair. It's so friggin rediculous for them to deny such repairs since it means income for their shop!

Anyway, I'm very happy that so many people are now Thunk Free thanks to the newly engineered upper strut mounts. I knew this was the cause of the thunk since the first time I heard the noise. Trust me folks, no one has experienced a higher level of frustration or disapointment than me when I heard the noise. Talk about mickey mouse engineering. How could Ford let this happen in the first place? Boggles the mind. Oh well, anyway, what's done is done. There IS a solution now and if you purchase a Mustang built after April of this year, you'll most likely not ever hear any such noises as they all come with the K-frame support bar and the updated mounts. ;-) Now that would have been really kewell! Picking up my new pony and never having had any problems whatsoever! Thunkless performance right off the lot from here on out! I certainly would have enjoyed that!

Better than a super modified thunking/clunking barely stickin together needs repair all the time tinker toy with blue tape on it GT!  LOL!

Yeah well, my supercharger is still sitting in the bank,,waiting to have enough play money to install it. But it's still in the works.
I was going to buy a GT but after all I had to consider back then, I decided I love my lil' pony just the way she is.
VERY SLEEPER FRIENDLY!

Once the x/c is sittin pretty on top of my 4.0, I'll be kickin GT butts all over the place! Although that's not one of my goals mind you. Yeah, right wolfey!

Well I had the "chuckle" removed on Wed.     Car sounds great now except I think I hear thumping in the rear.  Is this possible?

Smooth sailin! You'll love it!
You should also notice an improvement in overall handling and performance. Very subtle but noticeable. At least it was with mine.
She's all pony now. I love her and she loves me. ;-)

Yes! Always make sure the body is DEAD before you throw it in the trunk!

You could be hearing lose hangers or suspension parts back there.
Or,,you could just be hearing things ;-).

Welcome to the non-thunker club!

OUCH.  the truth hurts man.  i still have a front end noise.  i love the car when it's screaming around VIR or Summit, but other than that it's got all kinds of noises that still bug the sh!t out of me.

what's the 4.0 going to crank out?  i think the v6 would be better for weight distribution, but i heard somewhere that the gt is pretty balanced.  i just like the header/hi flo cat/xpipe/mac muffler burble of my v8

for example, take a peak at the following at about 20 seconds and at 43 seconds.  that's me coming down the roller coaster at VIR with Trackdaze:

there is a detailed discussion of this somewhere in the middle of this thread.  there is disagreement as to whether the Shelbys make the noise, but at least one Shelby owner has reported the noise.  the SVT strut mount is different than the one replaced, as far as i know, but it may or may not have the NVH characteristics of the faulty mount.  if i remember correctly [to save you time] somebody with a GT had the SVT mounts installed and it DID NOT fix the problem.  just curious, but why not buy the updated mounts for nearly the same price as the SVT ones?  if you're not road racing, you will not know the difference between the durometer of the SVT vs. the stock mounts.  if you are road racing or doing track days, get the maximum motorsport caster/camber plates!  my $.02.

Hey Northy.
Just kiddin around. That's what you get when you mess with us 6'ers ;-)

She should be puttin down a few more RWHP than the stock GT after the x/c is installed and the tuning is tweaked in. Evidently it's quicker off the line and will whoop a GT at top end too! ;-)
The GT's are heavier than the 4.0's are.
One other thing, I can hardly stand the sound of a Ford V8. It's that odd ball firing order that gives it a dump truck engine sound. Hate it!

I really dig Mopar and GM V8's due to not only their comparable durability and HP/lb. of weight but the firing order 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 just sounds crisper and doesn't have that obvious miss note in between each group ( all 8 cyl's) succession like Ford's do.
Also, I hate 90 degree V's. What a waste of space.

However, the 4.0 reminds me of the early small block Ford 289 HP engine. And as you know the stock 4.0 already puts a whoopin on a lot of pre-S197 GT's. ;-)

Even with an automatic, she's a whole lotta fun!
