I was driving along the interstate going to Nashville and out of nowhere this black srt 8 hemi charger (loks like the 07 model on dodges websight), anyway i was going about 70 and he past me kinda fast so i thought "what the hell i will see if I can catch him) I caught him at around 100 miles an hour and he took off and tried to leave me, both lanes were open so i took the the right lane and punched it, I was really surprised that he didnt pull away from me, as a matter of fact i pulled on him. I wasnt looking at the speedo until i was ready to slow down and by then I was doing over 140. I don't knowmuch about the chargers but my impresion is THEY SUCK! for close to 40k loaded i expected to be blow away.
Ironicly there was an 06 hemi charger at the local 1/8 mile track that same night (dodge oarnge and flatblack paint scheme) he ran a best of 9.20 in the 8th, by comparison most gto's at the track run 8.70-9.0 same as unmodded stangs there.

Basically same thing happened to me, except we werent at that high of speeds.. SRT8 Charger, we started around 55 and shut down around 90. Beat him by a few car lengths. I say they are slow, even after test driving one I didnt like it, which is why I got the Stang. Yet there are some people who still say theyre so much faster with their "huge hp" etc.. whatever. Ive even beaten one at the track, so until I have one smoke me, Ill continue to say theyre slower. One I raced on the road was the orange w/black and the one at the track was red. Im sure theyre nice cars, but as far as speed, looks and price, the Stang cant be beat.

Yeah, no doubt the SRT8 Charger's have a high HP number, but it is lugging around quite a bit more weight than our stallions. I test drove one while I was looking for my new car, and I was VERY impressed with it. Lots of creature comforts, a NICE gearbox, and fairly quick to boot. It's a serious hybrid car. (when I say "hybrid", I mean hybrid muscle/luxury car. Not my cup of tea, but a nice car none-the-less.) But as fast as us? Not a chance.

There was a guy with a SRT8 trolling this forum awhile back. If he sees this thread I have no doubt he'll be back to put his .02 cents in.

Yeah the interior was pretty nice, I do have to admit that.. The ride was decent too, not quite as rough as my Stang.. but that will be fixed shortly anyways. Thing I didnt like was the acceleration, braking didnt seem very good either.

Really? I wouldn't say there is "no way"...

From Road&Track

Charger with a fleet 13.3 seconds at 108.2 mph... (0-60 in 4.9)

http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=31&article_id=2905&page_number=2

This Mustang had a few more miles on the odo than the one we tested last month and clocked a 0-to-60 time of 5.1 seconds, an improvement of 0.1 second. The quarter fell in 13.8 seconds at 103 mph, 1 mph faster.

http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/8908/21st-century-muscle-cars-page3.html

.2 seconds faster to 60, .5 second faster in the quartermile...

Numbers this close... easily could come down to driver, weather, etc...

I won't challenge your opinion; however, I own an SRT8 and my '06 GT. My SRT8 has a governed top speed of about 172, has run a 13.02 STOCK, seats 5 in comfort, with all the ammenities, Brembo brakes, Goodyear F1's and cost ONLY 37k. Now, show me where any other car on the market can do all that for that price? - the only one that comes even close is a TBSS. Line up with him from a dig and he'll kill you every time. When people come over hear me tell them my station wagon will kill my handsome GT, they look at me like I have two heads, and of course that will change when I add my s/c.

Honestly, I know anything can happen on the street, but let's keep this in perspective. My GT and SRT8 are both stock, and the SRT8 is noticeably quicker, and has the times to back it up. Your encounter, accurate as it MAY be, is not indicative of the Mustang GT objectively being the faster car, because it simply isn't.

Funny you would object to the acceleration and braking of an SRT8 when your GT can't match either. Interesting.

SRT8's don't come in orange and black. You are thinking of the R/T, which is the standard 5.7 350 hp hemi.

Well if you are referring to me, I own both cars so the TROLL label would not apply, and if anyone wants an honest objective opinion on an SRT8 from a guy that owns one and has track time on it, I'm happy to give it. I love both my GT and my SRT8, and could care less if anyone else does. I'm not a person with an agenda, or out to make converts out of my fellow Mustang bretheran.

How true! Who really gives a crap. The Charger is still an ugly POC! (that's "piece of crap" for those who live in Rio Linda)

How did this comparo come up again? It got really ugly last time. Check out this link for the Fastest Accelerating Production cars and trucks built by any manufacturer in North America: http://www.autofacts.ca/classics/fast.htm
They made this list from magazine test runs on stock vehicles. Of course, these times can and do vary depending on the test conditions but both of the test results for the Dodge and Ford were conducted by Motor Trend. I found it interesting that the Charger SRT8 and the Mustang GT were so close. This list has them both running a 13.5 stock in the 1/4, but the Dodge is a little higher on the list since it was at 106.3 mph and the Stang was at 103.6. Looks like the Stang gets the jump on the Dodge due to the weight difference, but the Dodge starts catching up due to the superior HP. In any case it's comparing apples to oranges since a Stang like mine cost 29K and the SRT8s cost 35 to 45K. Even if the Dodge is faster, to be fair about it, allow a Stang guy to spend the the 6K on a KB supercharger and it would be no contest. So price wise for what you get...the Stang rules!

Yeah, and I am totally jealous of you. I'll get there though. Do you have the 2.6L or the older 2.4L?
