This is still going?  A decent trap speed for an SRT-8 is 106mph and with good conditions 108-110mph, stock.  Ask all the stock S197 owners what their dial-ins and trap speeds were yesterday at Sears Point.....    SRT-8s closest competitors are c5s, ls2 gtos and CTS-Vs, not really stock S197s, by 3rd gear it's usually over.  It's a quirky car for the dragstrip and going from a roll is a strength.

We lose in the mod game, no question and we all acknowledge that.  But until you can add 4 doors and stretch your wheelbase to 120", it's apples to oranges.

We lose in the stock game, and we all acknowledge that (GT vs SRT8, that is).  A stock SRT8 and a intake/tune/gear GT is more of a fair/even race.  It's the RT guys saying that they easily handle GTs is what everyone finds funny.

Good post though...one of the few intelligent ones I've seen in this thread.

Basically same thing happened to me, except we werent at that high of speeds.. SRT8 Charger, we started around 55 and shut down around 90. Beat him by a few car lengths. I say they are slow, even after test driving one I didnt like it, which is why I got the Stang. Yet there are some people who still say theyre so much faster with their "huge hp" etc.. whatever. Ive even beaten one at the track, so until I have one smoke me, Ill continue to say theyre slower. One I raced on the road was the orange w/black and the one at the track was red. Im sure theyre nice cars, but as far as speed, looks and price, the Stang cant be beat.

SRT8's don't come in orange and black. You are thinking of the R/T, which is the standard 5.7 350 hp hemi.

SRT8's do come in black cause my boss has one and hes pushing 425 hp i beleive, its all stock. n he was telling me some of the things he has beaten. and therefore i dont see you beating one with a gt.

+1

I pulled along side one today at a stoplight. It had the SRT8 badge and was black.

Just thought i would chime in. I just read every post on here. I agree with a few thing. The chargers is an awsome car, i think for a Boat, it is a real bad ass car. I have 2 kids, and if i wanted a family ride that is cool, and fast, and had no other transprtation, that would be a great car to have. I can understand why guys that have them are proud owners. I also agree on it being apples, and oranges. Gt owners are just that, guys that wanted a 2 door cool car, not guys that wanted a 4 door family hauler. Both cars have there place. If your into racing, and pull up to a Family ride with a Hemi, and the guy wants to go, give her a shot. Just know that the guy (or girl ) in that car, choose that car, and you choose yours, both are respectable in there own world. I am a mustang lover, and always have been, and don't own a GT, but love to have one. Being a person that Has no Gt, or has raced a RT/Hemi, I thought i would give a perspective. You guys that bash the charger, and you other guys that bash the Mustang ( charger guys ), should just enjoy cars in general. After all, its the Rice that we all hate. The only other thing that i thought was a good statement was " Now if we want to compare apples to oranges, why not compare SRT products with SVT products?  Hmmmm...specialty car vs. specialty car....GT vs. Viper...SRT8 vs. GT500 or SVT cobra...

The SRT boys didn't really use their heads when they build their specialty cars. They depend on big inefficient N/A motors where the Ford boys where smart enough to supercharge everything. A supercharged Viper would have been  a better match for the GT. At least the SRT & the SVT teams had one thing in common, They both built badass cars. I wonder what Chevy was thinking putting SS Badges on everything. Did the world really need a Malibu Max SS?

problem with the r/ts is guys shift with the slapstick and think they are cool, but the factory sets up the best shift points allready if you jsut leave it in drive- so most guys run it up into the redline way to far, i hear it can hurt a couple tenths

still, the r/t got motor trend's runner up in 2006 car of the year, and thats on its first year in production, thats saying somthing- its great in every department

My sisters fiance's brother has a srt8 charger, yellow black stripe down the middle...i dont even like them...but its sharp.  Hes basically a rich boy so he doesnt have to worry about money, his dad bought it for him...and he doesnt even know whats done to it...but he claims hes got 480 at the wheels.

480 to the wheels, sounds like something you might read on a charger forum.  I'd be smacking down chargers daily if all the F'n cops weren't driving them!

Something interesting I found in a post by a member of this forum...who said:

I will run any SRT8 anytime and I guarantee it will lose.
I really dont care if I can't fit five people in my car. Muscle cars are not for driving the family around. Yes and my top goes down while I run low 11 seconds.
You cant do that in a Charger

How about in a heavier car than the charger..The 300SRT8... oh yes he's  modded.
