According to the boys over at the chargerforums, if your car was running 13.5 then the srt8 should have been running 12's!

Hmm...i've raced a Charger SRT-8 Super Bee several times and the outcome was pretty much a tie. I had lower control arms and front swaybar delete at the time. My 60' was 2.0 so it's not like the LCAs were giving me some amazing grip due to my tires.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrlQFZo-tiw

His best run of the day was the 13.53. My best run of the day was 13.50 (not the run in the link).

GT owners...why are you even comparing yourselves to the SRT 8's when its the R/T's i'd be worried about

The R/T Hemi most people can walk out the door at around 26-29, and can mod there car up with 10k worth of **** and run 12.8-9...those are the people i'd be worried about...apple and orange comparers of the world

if you want to play that price comparison game i'd see what charger in your price range would do with the same cost of mods as your mustang would

What mods are there to put a R/T in the 12's?  Besides a 150 shot and drag radials which neither are probably the norm on the street.  I've read there aren't even any gear options for the chargers.  My 4.10's go in next week!

Hmmmmm, this thread dates back to November 2006!  Why didn't it get moved into Street & Strip back then?  It certainly doesn't have anything to do with S197 Tech...

They have 340HP and we have 300HP stock....40 more than us and they still suck. Their heavier and they look ugly. A charger with 4 doors, not the way i would have made them....it's not a muscle car no matter what motor or name they put on that car.

The 5.7L and 6.1L 300 chasis(300, magnum, charger) cars are the only real muscle cars being built these days. Mustangs are pony cars, Chrysler 300s with 425hp are muscle cars.

ok here stuff people havnt highlighted yet- just for the record, these are all stock for stock, a thousond dollars in mods make a worlds of differnece

1. when you see a srt-8 run a mid 14 it becuase people dont know how to drive, yes its an automatic, but its a slapstick and they run the engine out to 7 grand and dont shift when they should, so anyone that see some guy at the track un a mid 13, they arnt running to it potential - motor trend ran a stock srt-8 magnum to a 13.1, enough said

2. i hate when people say that they shouldnt have named it a charger becuase it doesnt represent the old one- well guess what, they made a front wheel drive charger in the 80s and that car was ugly, its just a name, they are not trying to pin the charger legacy onto it, enough said

3. sure you might be able to spend 12 grand in mods to make it as fast and handle as well as the charger, but then you have 37 grand into a small striped down car that isnt nearly as street friend as it was stock and is similar to the cahrger performance wise, enough said

4. when you say that the charger is ugly, well, no duh, its not made to be a pretty car, in case you havent noticed, all of dodge linup no adays is the same, they tell you strait out its not made to be attractive, its made to be in your face , badd ass, hotrod look- when i here somone comment about any mustang really, it a chick saying o that car is soo pretty- i really want my car to have that rep- enough said

5. dodge has more factory options apperance wise than anyone else, so you can judge the car by its outside, you can get daytona paint on a 2.7 and i have seen an srt-8 with 6 cyl rims- i have also see a r/t with srt-8 badges, enough said

6. the challenger will be a much more compairable car when it comes out , to the mustang, 2 door and a performance car- although dodge will probly be smart about it and sell it for $50,000+ and people will pay that, so it make since to sell it for that much, so then it wont be so compairable becuase its will be much more of a limited edition because it looks more like the original than the mustang or camaro could ever hope to be, enough said

8. no to mention that the srt-8 comes with brembo brakes from the factory along with many other upgrades for the srt-8 package, enough said

8. this is my favorite one, the 4100lb chager can pull .87 on the skidpad where as the 3500 lb mustang can olny do .84, for the last time enough said

Where did you get that number for the Mustang? Car and driver says 0.89g. Chargers should be renamed. How can you call it a Charger and give it 4 doors and no option for a stick. http://www.caranddriver.com/features/12247/2007-ford-mustang-gt.html

12 grand!  You're out of your ****ing mind.

Read and learn

http://www.musclemustangfastfords.com/tech/mmfp_0610_bolt_on_performance_parts/index.html

I'd say that's faster and no where near 12 grand.  A modded charger srt8 on the charger forum ran a 13.3@108 for a best out of 4 or 5 runs.  I guess motor trend has some amazing drivers that really know how to work an auto. Laughing my ****ing ass off!

You must have spent atleast $15k to get that time in your sig!  The best you can hope for with 12k in mods is a 13.1. LOL!

There is about $5k into performance in the car, including all suspension, and tires.  I was running 13.1 with less than $2k into the car...in fact, I ran into the 12s with less than $2k into the car...(12.97 at 110.77).

i like how everyone assumes the thousands saved when buying a car is thousands you have on hand to dump into a car.  i don't know about a lot of you guys, but i can't afford to spend 30k on a car in cash, or 25k on a cheaper car using that 5k on mods to make it even faster.  i'm not that well off and actually finance my cars.  heh... and good luck getting a bank to agree to giving you 30k for a car that costs 25k.

Are kidding me? 10k for a 12.8-12.9 car? Gears, CAI,Dyno Tune,Pullies and D/R and or Slicks will get you well into the high 12's, You put 10k into a S197 you will be running high 11's. LOL. 10k and run 12.8 or 12.9 LOL, I could by a LS1 camaro and run that almost stock!

Holy crap at the SRT8 leg humpers on here!

The SRT8 this and SRT...that.  I think Ford is doing exactly what they need to.  The mustang GT is a performance bargain.  Dodge had to do something to get even a piece of the performance market, thus the SRT cars (and trucks).

Now if we want to compare apples to oranges, why not compare SRT products with SVT products?  Hmmmm...specialty car vs. specialty car....GT vs. Viper...SRT8 vs. GT500 or SVT cobra...

This is still going?  A decent trap speed for an SRT-8 is 106mph and with good conditions 108-110mph, stock.  Ask all the stock S197 owners what their dial-ins and trap speeds were yesterday at Sears Point.....    SRT-8s closest competitors are c5s, ls2 gtos and CTS-Vs, not really stock S197s, by 3rd gear it's usually over.  It's a quirky car for the dragstrip and going from a roll is a strength.

We lose in the mod game, no question and we all acknowledge that.  But until you can add 4 doors and stretch your wheelbase to 120", it's apples to oranges.

Stock this and stock that!  Who the hell is stock?  Mod your boat all you want.  And why in the world would I want to add two doors?
