How did this comparo come up again? It got really ugly last time. Check out this link for the Fastest Accelerating Production cars and trucks built by any manufacturer in North America: http://www.autofacts.ca/classics/fast.htm They made this list from magazine test runs on stock vehicles. Of course, these times can and do vary depending on the test conditions but both of the test results for the Dodge and Ford were conducted by Motor Trend. I found it interesting that the Charger SRT8 and the Mustang GT were so close. This list has them both running a 13.5 stock in the 1/4, but the Dodge is a little higher on the list since it was at 106.3 mph and the Stang was at 103.6. Looks like the Stang gets the jump on the Dodge due to the weight difference, but the Dodge starts catching up due to the superior HP. In any case it's comparing apples to oranges since a Stang like mine cost 29K and the SRT8s cost 35 to 45K. Even if the Dodge is faster, to be fair about it, allow a Stang guy to spend the the 6K on a KB supercharger and it would be no contest. So price wise for what you get...the Stang rules!
I don't think a friendly exchang should turn ugly. You make a good point about the GT and the SRT8 being apples and oranges, because they really are. However, I think you loose the point when you try to compare them by price. They are two entirely different cars serving different markets. The guy looking at SRT8's, most likesly isn't even thinking of Mustangs because let's face it, most srt8 guys have families, and good luck explaining to the wife how the Mustang is going to make a fine car for the family.
The counter to your point on let the Mustang owner spend the difference in cash between the two on mods is fine, but then again try to pack 5 people and a weekend's worth of luggage in the 'Stang, and that's exactly the mission for the srt8's.
Say what you like guys, I'm lucky to be able to afford both, and for a guy like me with children to account for. It's a great time when you can own a safe roomy family car that is an absolute blast to drive. Sure beats the my old Tahoe.

Moving on.
I hear you bro and I'm not a hater. If that's what you like, more power to you. I understand that some people need the space, but what I meant about the price was talking about performance only. Yeah, you do get other things for what you paid, but my point is that I can go faster for the same price or less...that's all.

One I raced on the road was the orange w/black and the one at the track was red.
Sounds like you are racing the 350hp Daytona package (the orange one), not the SRT. Factory the SRT's only come in a solid color. They are hard to pick out on the road for me until I can see their hood scoop.
Edit: oops, someone already said this.
I think the above assessment is correct. We get the jump on the SRT but are loosing ground by the end of the 1/4. What are the 2 cars 0-120mph times?

Basically same thing happened to me, except we werent at that high of speeds.. SRT8 Charger, we started around 55 and shut down around 90. Beat him by a few car lengths. I say they are slow, even after test driving one I didnt like it, which is why I got the Stang. Yet there are some people who still say theyre so much faster with their "huge hp" etc.. whatever. Ive even beaten one at the track, so until I have one smoke me, Ill continue to say theyre slower. One I raced on the road was the orange w/black and the one at the track was red. Im sure theyre nice cars, but as far as speed, looks and price, the Stang cant be beat.
SRT8's don't come in orange and black. You are thinking of the R/T, which is the standard 5.7 350 hp hemi.
My mistake then, thats very possible, we were driving down a highway, I wasnt inclined to stare at the emblem, but the one at the track was most definately an SRT8, I was looking at it in the staging lanes.
Yeah, no doubt the SRT8 Charger's have a high HP number, but it is lugging around quite a bit more weight than our stallions. I test drove one while I was looking for my new car, and I was VERY impressed with it. Lots of creature comforts, a NICE gearbox, and fairly quick to boot. It's a serious hybrid car. (when I say "hybrid", I mean hybrid muscle/luxury car. Not my cup of tea, but a nice car none-the-less.) But as fast as us? Not a chance.
There was a guy with a SRT8 trolling this forum awhile back. If he sees this thread I have no doubt he'll be back to put his .02 cents in.
Yeah the interior was pretty nice, I do have to admit that.. The ride was decent too, not quite as rough as my Stang.. but that will be fixed shortly anyways. Thing I didnt like was the acceleration, braking didnt seem very good either.
Funny you would object to the acceleration and braking of an SRT8 when your GT can't match either. Interesting.
Like I said, these are just my experience from the test drive. Maybe the cars I test drove were not broken in or had bad brakes, who knows. Im not trying to be all Ford biased or anything because I actually test drove the Charger and Magnum first. Im a muscle car lover, not a brand loyalist. The Magnum is actually what I wanted to get but after test driving them I wasnt as excited about them as I thought I would be so I took a trip to a Ford dealership and test drove a manual GT and well the rest is history.

I've got plenty of wheel time in my dads Hemi Charger RT with Mopor intake, Magnaflow cat back. The looks might not be everybody's cup of tea (certainly not mine either) but the car feels extremely good on the street. I'd dare say under most conditions, the standard Charger feels much faster then its numbers suggest. With a stock GT of one even slightly modified, I'd be cautious running with one at certain speeds because even the standard 345 HP hemi puts those 4000 pounds into motion in a suprising and entertaining manner if the tranny kicks down at the right speed; very old school feel in the acceleration department but with Caddy-like luxury surroundings.
If the new Challenger is 400-500 pounds lighter then the Charger, even a base 345 Hemi car with either manual or stick will be a ticket right to 1970. I can only imagine what a 425 HP SRT version would feel like behind the wheel. We'd certainly need the Aluminum 5.4 or at the very least one of the 5.0L cammers to compete with this level of muscle.

str-8 has higher power to weight ratio and they are all autos so the driver really DOESN'T matter. To pull those mid 13's #'s you need a good driver and power shifting.

You know, I made a post about this over at chargerforums.com. Lets compare apples to apples. I was in the market for a new car and wanted something that has performance. Coming from a Isuzu 2 door truck, I was looking into getting a Mustang GT. I test drove it but wasnt really impressed with it. It was just a little too basic on the inside with no options. I know Ford tried to keep in price friendly but damn....I came on here trying to see whats a good deal on them( but some asshole said if I had to ask those questions, then I can't afford it,lol). I then discovered the Charger SRT8, it had the four doors I needed, the looks and the power, not to mention the amenities that the GT was seriously lacking. Test drove it and bought it.
I really can't compare the two because they are two different cars. Why do people use price as a performance comparison? (your car has 125 more HP but aint no faster than my GT) Once again, lets compare apples to apples, Is the 12k difference in price worth it? Maybe not to you but it was to me. I am happy with my ride and do respect the GT's. Compare your cars to the 2 door Camaro's and Challenger's when they come out.
1. All SRT8's are auto 2. There for all stock SRT8's shift the same 3. There could then be no shifting variation between stock SRT8's 4. How in the hell could one get a 13.02 on a stock SRT8?????
