I believe it was Car and Driver that said something to the effect of "You will not get these times in this car. We had to drop the clutch at 8,000 rpm in order to achieve decent times." The engines just don't produce a lot of torque. I wouldn't ever buy an RX-8 because they lied about their HP ratings by a significant amount. I also can't stand the rear half door crap. Every time I see one the car looks longer and more penis like. Oh, and the whole automatic makes less HP than the manual. I mean, I'd only get a manual, but I hate it when car companies make cookie cutter cars. Just like Manual tranny Pathfinders can't have leather too. Glad I ordered my car with what I wanted, not what the car company thought was a good package of options.

First off, DAMN you're late. Second, did you read ANY of the posts before this? Mazda didn't lie about the horsepower. They aren't "half doors," they're suicide doors. They're pretty much fullsize.

Actually, yes, I did read all of the previous posts. I didn't analyze all of them with a microscope, but I read all of them. The only one that said anything about Car and Driver testing was this:

RX8's run low 14's stock at the track all day long and run mid 5's 0-60, about the same as a stock mustang. If your car is a "POS" than one would assume its not running well, hence it was safe to say the RX8 shoulda had u if all other things were equal. Im not a ricer by any means, but I watched a Car and Driver show when they flogged one of those, and I was impressed.
Oh, and I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night...

I read the post about the engine not working to its full potential because the front wheels aren't turning on a dyno, but Mazda is offering to buy back the cars, so they are admitting that there vehicle did not live up to their original statements. I was just saying that I wouldn't buy it because of those things. It's one thing to correct someone, but to just be sarcastic and rude when they are trying to add their own thoughts to something is what makes this forum suck now. I have not visited this forum in a while, and I probably won't anymore because everyone has to be such a jerk and then there is so much rice on here detracting from posts (I'm not talking about GSRGUY18 specifically. I thought that he used to actually help people and not be a jerk off like a lot of the import guys on here, but the rice on here makes every thread turn into an import - domestic battle.) To those who have helped me and have been nice to talk to, I thank you.
Done crying? You said Mazda LIED about the horsepower, and they didn't. And you complained about small rear doors, when the other cars in it's class don't even HAVE rear doors. Stop nitpicking and whining, and there will be no problems. It's a damn good car, period.

They didn't flat out lie, the overestimated it...how about that?
Mazda put out a release that changed the official hp numbers to 238 hp. Before they claimed like 276 or something.
Like I said on the previous page.... the reason people didn't dyno the numbers is one, it didn't make 276 and two, there's wheel sensors at all four corners, when you dyno a car you don't have airflow over the wheels, and when you don't have the airflow, you won't be able to WOT the car. It's a program they installed on the 8 to keep the engine from overheating the catalytic converter when not driving at speed.

Actaully from what i understand they didnt overestimate them one bit. Go to a J-Spec RX8 and you will get 255 hp. For those of you that dont know this, rotary engines have to be tuned down, to where they dont run at their best to have a hope of passing emissions in america. Also the addition of cats and all the emissions stuff is what made the car not reach the 255.

Thats all horse didley. When you have SCC trying to trick the sensors on the wheels to see what kinda power the engine really makes, you have a weird, but rather accurate guesstimate on how much an rx8 will put down on the dyno, they run low 14s from the Mazda factory, a 3000 lb car would run high 13s if it had 255 hp.
Overall the RX8 is wayyy tooo wired for its own good and obviously detuned for emissions testing but people who say the horsepower numbers were NOT lied then they dont know the whole story of the car.
There were a couple of buy back programs later on during the first days of the RX8 cuz the numbers werent producing what they were even close to saying. Ive also seen and raced some of them on the road and say even for an import it is far too underpowered and overrated. Btw i drove a G35 Sedan (dads car) when i smoked the rx8 mofo :P My sedan has kick and is comparable to a 4.6 2v auto sooo its not surprising that the rx8 was spanked in the original post. essentialy overrated and underpowered. btw mazda is theoretically no longer an import company since its owned by (i think ford but dont quote me on it)

the part of mazda making rotaries isnt american. i believe mazda works with ford on the compact truck they make, the 3 (protege replacement), and some other stuff, but i know for a fact they dont own 100% of mazda

Well, I'll just chime in and say they look pretty sweet. I guess I have to respect what they Mazda guys have to say about dynoing these cars; apparently they work pretty differently in that light. Also, Mustang guys: come on! We all love Mustangs; hell it's my favorite car. But did we all start hating the 99 Cobra when it had to go through the fix to get the advertised 320hp? It happens. Give the car a chance to live up to its potential.
