Can anybody say what old cars (80's or so) could stand up to stock stangs outside the camaro/firebird and within the same price range? Curious to know if there are hondas or rx7s or anything I shouldnt be happy around
My friend (rx7-owner) distorted a few things.  I am not an American Only person, I can respect some of the foreign cars.  They can build affordable and reliable cars, but i just like Fords better.  And I only "rip" on his rx-7 when he brags about it.  It is a decent car but i just get sick of hearin about it all the time and how people are always looking at it.  The rx-8's are pretty nice lookin cars too but for 26-31 grand, i would rather buy a stang.

I'd rather buy a 10k mile 03 Cobra for 25k and run 12's.

That's exactly my point about the rx-8's.  Nice looking car but if you are gonna spend that much, you might as well buy a Cobra and have a quicker car that looks nicer.  (That is my opinion since i think no car looks better than a mustang)

LOL Amen brotha

.. however I think the 94 and up stangs are less pretty what with their rounded bodies and futuristing styling. Too damn hip for my tastes. And the new ones are even less. I really only like the boxy foxy stang. I think theres other much prettier cars. But when it comes to serious business the boxy look is whats hot ... all in my opinion anyway. (and probably true for a whole buncha you out there, considering the name of the forum)

Um, Sean isn't lying.

If you guys knew anything about RX8's then you would know about Mazda's offer to buy-back the new RX8's, as they are rolling under 200hp on the dyno's.

I can easily believe Sean mopped up the floor with that RX8. Do some research before you start flapping your lips.

The same thing happened with the 01 Miata. Mazda had to give $ back!

well let me clear this up. Yes it is a very very good chance this happened. The Rx8 is not that fast. But the other hand The rx7 is another story, if it is modded right it will cut but. How do I know I am a Rx7 owner and my wife has a 86 5.0 GT mustang.
RX8 comes in under 200HP unless it is the 6 speed which has 240ish. On the other hand, one thing rotaries never have been able to do: torque. Piddly torque numbers, not THAT great of HP numbers and a car just a smidge above 3000 pounds. The RX7s WERE badass because they weighed in at close to nothing. Not so the RX8.
That must be a bad tranny then, I believe you only assume 20 or so % loss for an auto and 16% or so for a manual....

You guys don't keep up much on foreign cars do ya?

RX8s dyno under 200 hp for two reasons. One, (which Mazda finally came out and fessed up to) it makes 238 hp. Two, when dyno'ing you only have the drive wheels rolling, if the front two are not rolling then the sensors (go figure...) will not let the engine go WOT. Why not? Because the rotary engine tends to overheat the catalytic converter if air is not flowing over them like they would be racing. On top of that, if the car isn't running at WOT, it'll run rich to keep the engine cooler. So if you dyno your car, you're not getting the necessary air to burn the fuel, and you don't have the airflow under the cat which makes the car run like sh*t, and dynos crappy numbers.

I believe it was Car and Driver that said something to the effect of "You will not get these times in this car. We had to drop the clutch at 8,000 rpm in order to achieve decent times." The engines just don't produce a lot of torque. I wouldn't ever buy an RX-8 because they lied about their HP ratings by a significant amount. I also can't stand the rear half door crap. Every time I see one the car looks longer and more penis like. Oh, and the whole automatic makes less HP than the manual. I mean, I'd only get a manual, but I hate it when car companies make cookie cutter cars. Just like Manual tranny Pathfinders can't have leather too. Glad I ordered my car with what I wanted, not what the car company thought was a good package of options.
