Mustangs are still better! I heard of the rx8 running about a 15 flat in the 1/4. Sound about right? And I myself have seen one get on it on the road, and the bottom end torque really sucks! These things can't take off at all!
Good kill Sean... I do however, think it's funny that the creator of 3.8mustang.com is getting questioned on his race stories though. BTW people, I've been to the track and seen a brand new (02-03) Mustang GT not be able to break into the 14s. So the RX8s that you see running "bad times" at the track, might be the track's fault, not the driver's.

I drove an RX-8, I use to drive an RX-7, RX7 would kick it's arse any day. RX7 didnt weigh much which is where the power to weight ratio REALLY helps out. The RX8 I drove was probably almost as heavy as my Mustang it seemed.
I'm kind of dissapointed with the RX8.
(ps - motor trends test on the last RX7 reported that the handling, accel and braking was the #1 in cars under 75K <braking holds the record>)
What would be a better overall car, a mustang or a rx-8?? i know the mustang has more potential in performance, but overall?? My sister has a few cars on her list. She's looking at a stang, rx-8, 350z, is300, g35 sports coupe, and a few other ones i forgot.
well if she doesn't go 'stang..that 350z with a turbo is a nice car ..I think people don't understand the rx car their rotory engines nothing like any other engine...they got 400 hp out of a 2.0 twin turbo in stock trim on the rx7 ..very quick cars...they have low torque number because it a rotary engine. there design you won't see the 200k mile engine..
we have a lil ole rx7 with a 350 here....*L*

I dunno - I got dropped by one of those new Chrylser Crossfires - but then again the chick driving it kinda had me entranced!!! but that wouldn't have mattered - that car hauls ass!!!! Man!!!!
Wow, im impressed at how much some of you know. Good job on learning aobut stuff before you criticize. Its nice to hear some muscle car people actually like the RX-7. my friend is one of those "AMERICAN ONLY" typ eof people and rips on my RX-7 sometimes, but i do brag it up because he puts it down so much. As for stangs having more ability to modify than rx-8s, i would have to say thats iffy. However i do not know to much about the new renessis version, but it is similar to my 13b wankel so i know u can do alot. Alot of things to port that will give tons of hp. Along with suspension, F.I. pulley setup, apex seals, rotor sizes, turbos(dont think they are making a 8 turbo not sure thou) fuel injectors pumps, and most of all exhaust. Most anyhting you can do to a mustang you can do to a rotary engine, but they have to be gone about much differently. As for the stang beating the 8, if it was brand new that there is your reason. It wasnt broken in, the apex seals arent going to be sealing to good, your OMP will still be getting conditioned along with the tranny and all that. Once that thing gets broken in and the driver gets used to it(if his is a stick) i would have to say that it could hold its own against most other cars. I would love to see you, along with anyone else beat an 8, or a 7, because i love both vehicles and ive seen 7s beat stangs, so now im more than willing to see it the other way around.

Havn't you guys heard about the false HP ratings that Mazda put out for the RX8? They claimed when it first came out the 6 speed version had 250hp, now they came out and admitted that it only has 230hp at the crank because people were dyno'ing there RX8's and only got around 190rwhp and complained.

to the rx-7 guy...remember one thing, the faster 7's DO come turbo-charged...i LOVE the RX-7's and wish i had the money to buy one, but i would NEVER own the new 8. the 8's look cool, but they're slow, esp. compared to the new 350Z. i've raced a couple and they DEFF hold their own. i think they would WAX a stock 5.0 even with exhaust. btw the RX-8 is around 30 grand...can anyone say 03 Cobra?

Hey, Im new here so dont mind me if Im outta line or something... anyway.
I can with ease say that I havent been beaten by any minivans. But otherwise I dont think my ride is all that. In fact once its in 3rd I think its kinda slow. Mustangs are still my fav and probably will always be, but I dont find mine to be fast. Then again maybe I shouldnt be talking, what with everything being stock. Also another factor might be the age and condition of my baby (at 130K + miles)
Can anybody say what old cars (80's or so) could stand up to stock stangs outside the camaro/firebird and within the same price range? Curious to know if there are hondas or rx7s or anything I shouldnt be happy around
Lmao, only 2nd and 3rd gens came turboed, and if you want a fast RX-7 you take the 1st gen GSL-SE, my car, and drop a 86-92 tII into it. Thats how you get a fast car. But that also runs you between 2 to 5 grand, because there is no such thing as a bolt on turbo for these cars aynmore. Custom exhaust and intake are required now.
