Thinking of Buying a 03 Cobra Ford really did things right! I was wondering what you all could tell me about the Cobra Mustang. Why should somebody buy a Mustang over a Camaro or Firebird? How is the general comfort and ergonomics?

Thanks in advance.

Cuz its a Mustang!!!  Nuff said!!!

plus - the camaro was Chevy's feeble answer to the Mustang and then GM had to whore itself out by developing the Pontiac Firebird

Well, for one thing Camaros and Firebirds are no longer being produced.  I traded in my 01 Ram-Air Trans-Am for an 03 Cobra because I didnt want to spend a fortune strengthening my motor so I could install a supercharger.  The 03 Cobra is easy and relatively cheap to mod.  Chip, pulley, intake and exhaust will get you 460-480rwhp and a Kenne Bell supercharger will put you into the 650-680rwhp range.

Why wait.  515 HP is no biggie.  With simple mods, I'm already there.  I've got 460 rwhp which is more than 515 BHP.   I'm pretty sure that the price will go much higher if they use the 5.4 supercharged motor.  The 03 Cobra was plenty expensive for my taste.  Why wait another 3 years.  If the 06 Cobra is that much better, I'll just trade in my 03 since I'll have it damn near paid off.  As is, I have 3 years to enjoy being king of the road.  I'll worry about 06 when it arrives.

well I'd wait on a 05 shelby..or go ahead and buy a roush or a saleen if $$$ permits...by 05-06 there will be a glut of 01-03 cobras for sale as the z28 has gone there is really nothing else to buy except a stang until late 04 as chev will have something else going...'stang are cheaply moded buy the 4.6 isn't the easiest to work on...one thing about the 05 is all that will be under warrantty

I think to say anything about a 2006 is just speculation at this point... even if there is a 5.4 sc prototype cobra right now, it doesnt mean it will go into production.

My thoughts exactly.  Enjoy the moment.  Everytime I drive my 03 Cobra, the payments dont seem to be a big deal.  The gas, on the other hand, is a pain in the ........

i agree with OK03Cobra. to get reliable 400-500 rwhp off of an LT-1 or LS-1, you have to rip the motor apart. the LS-1 is a high compression, cast aluminum engine. the 03 cobra is packing a nicely forged set of internals, that can produce 600+ at the wheels easily.

Well after allot of thinking I decided not to get the Cobra. The only reason is the stiff clutch. I was in a motorcycle accident in 1992 (Hit and Run never caught the guy) and broke both legs and my ankles were crushed. The clutch is so stiff in the Cobra I don't think I could drive the car very much and an Automatic is not an option. Don't get me wrong I love a manual tranny but when it hurts to shift it kind of takes the fun out of it. I have no problem with hydraulic clutches normally and thought I'd have no problem with the Cobra. Is the clutch hydraulic or is it cable?

Do you guys think I could get Ford to build me a Cobra with an automatic trans? Yeah right!

I've heard people upgrading the clutch in the 03 which resulted in a much easier clutch pedal.  I'm not sure what the mod was but I think it was in response to the throw out bearings.  Check out SVTPerformance.com and do a search on "TOB" or Clutches.

Good luck on your decision regardless on what you choose.

how do you have 460rwhp with only those mods?  they only came with what...390bhp?  that's an awesome car, i just don't believe you're running that much hp to the rear wheels.

The Cobra is Not even close to a Corvette. Handling, Acceleration (this is all ZO6 stuff), weight, braking. No Contest-stock for stock. I am not talking trash either, and you no it. The Vette is a different class of car, and always will be. The Mustang and Camaro/Firebird are the 2 cars to compare. Yes I know, it doesnt take much to make a 03 Cobra faster, quicker Blah Blah, but it doesnt take much to make a ZO6 quicker and faster.
