Hello, I have a 1967 Ford Mustang Coupe, I seem to be leaking quite a bit of dark oil under my torque converter, I think I may have a rear main seal leak. Are these hard to repair, do I need to remove the engine, or just take down the oil pan and replace the gasket, any info would be much appreciated!!! Thanks!

you can take the pan off but with the 2 piece rear main seal it's a Bitch to do under the car your looking at about 2-4 hours..just take your time but make sure your front seal on the trans isn't leaking too. if both are leaking I'd pull both engine and trans as a whole..this way while the pan is off I'd put in a new oil pump, screen and pull a main and rod bearing to check for wear...you can buy a "plastic gauge" at NAPA for about 2.00 and check clearance. when reinstalling oil pan clean it well inside and out..go ahead and put a fresh coat on paint on it and put in a magnet oil drain plug.. how this helps

I would pull the engine with out the trans it will be eaiser to handle when trying to remove it. All you have to do is remove the torque converter bolts and the bell housing bolts and the starter. It is a walk in the park and inspect the trans front seal if it looks ok let it be and spend you time and effort on the motor.
