i'm searching for a 89-93 5.0/aod that i plan on bracket racing but want to get some idea on what to expect 1/4 mile time wize (i've heard that the aod cars are quite a bit slower than the t5 cars) and what i can do to improve e.t. without digging into the motor or changing to a bigger throttle body , i'm thinking a differant gear, higher stall convertor, small slicks, low restriction exhaust, what do you folks recommend?

Thanks, RJ

yea if ur gonna drag it u dont need overdrive anyways, and even if ur gonna drive it on the street a c4 will still be better for u if ur gonna do any racing at all, since they dont hog as much power.  As for the times your gonna run... well... lets just say slower than you would be if u had a c4

The AOD is one of the most efficient overdrive transmissions available, your 1/4 mile times would probably be about the same as a C-4,Lentec is building AOD's for 900hp drag cars,so they are strong enough if built properly.

that aod is like 2-3k

a c-4 with a 2500 stall can be had under 500.....food for thought their is always better out there but at what cost.

aod with a shift kit and gears will put the power down, with my shift kit and gears, i have gotten great results.. downside is on wet roads while trying to get on the interstate.. i need a beater now that i am in an area with snow.. in new orleans never had to worry about it... now that i am in louisville, my stang will be retired during the winter

The lentech valve body for the aod is about $380 and will kill a c4. A "lentech manufactured" aod is the most popular auto loader going for drag racing (barring the powerglide for extremely high hp machines).

in a week im hopefully haveing a aod built from sr7 performance in las vegas, NV. Its going to cost $2200, and that includes installation of a 850-900hp rated non locking aod with a manual shift valve body and a togle switch to go into 4th.Also includes a custom built to the cars specs stall converter.I think thats a good deal?dohc_cobra37894.9787847222
