Default X-Pipe with no cats

I just installed the Bassani X-pipe and removed the cats. Everything sounds perfect, just like I wanted to, but theres kinda a rattling type noise at mid RPM's. Is that normal for an O/R x-pipe? It's similar to the sound that the bad 05 exhausts had....

Also, they guy said I need a new Tune, is that true?

Thanks!

Rattling is probably something loose. Put it up on a rack and have someone run the RPM's up to point of noise.

BTW, if anyone hears rattling of exhaust, and you have cats, be sure to check them. A bad cat can break apart inside and actually PLUG the exit and cause some serious back pressure probs. The early signs of a bad cat are rattling.

sorry 'bout the hijack, but when a cat fails, it can put someones eye out

No worries

I was thinking it was a loose clamp? Hopefully it's that easy of a fix. So anyways, that rattle type noise should NOT be happening?

i run the mac shortys, bassani X w/cats at first i got a hiss or kinda like an exhaust leak sound.
only at certain times not always.. and i even had my mechanic run the car by me while i stood there , u cant hear it if the car is driving by you
we shook the exhaust down a few times retight clamps etc so no leaks.
we decided it was the catback dump pipes that are under the car, now that there is so much more exhaust flow

I don't have a hiss, more like a rattle. Looks like Saleen100 had the same problem I have...

Is that common when you take off the cats? Should I keep the X-pipe but add high-flow cats? Should I remove the mufflers and have it have straight pipes? Should I change out the mufflers to a different brand? Or should I just put my old one back?

Saleen100, what year is your Saleen? Maybe this is the same rattle that was caused by the bad valves on the '05 exhausts since there is so much air flow?

I've heard many times that the o/r X tends to sound raspier with a hint of a pinging/rattle at certain RPM's on the new 3v motor. I have the o/r H and have not such sound and am very pleased.

But to say its sounds like lawn mower [&:] Whatever. And STOP SHOUTING AT US PLEASE - its hurts the eyes [8D]

You should be fine with an o/r setup either way, but I would not recommend removing the mufflers - leave that for the truck boys [:'(] And you should NOT need to re-tune.

I have that rattling type noise pretty much the whole range of the RPMs...

If I take off the mufflers will it be way too loud or what?

Yes - way too loud, way too illegal, and actually TOO much flow resulting in a significant loss in low end torque. The Saleen mufflers are Magna Flow (I believe) so they are already a higher flow than stock, so I see no reason to need to change them out or remove them.

IMO my Saleen sounds killer with the o/r H set-up with the original Saleen axel backs. It sounds powerful, but not like a truck with straight pipes only [:'(] Its up to you though, do you want to thing to sound hideous, or do you want it to sound good [&:]

Well it already sounds pretty bad... At times it sounds good and at times it sounds bad. I like the sound of the magnaflow but I dont like the rattle. I'm guessing its from the bad valves in the 05 exhausts and I would've like to get replacement Magnaflows but I don't know how I would get replacement ones since right now my check engine light is on and I don't have any cats on it... If I don't like the sound of the straight pipes I'll just get replacement Borla's or Magnaflows without the valves?

I'm almost 100% postive the sound I'm trying to explain is from the bad valves in the 05's exhaust. When I get home today, I'll try and take a video if I can get the right sound on my digital camera and see if you can help me out with the sound. I don't think I'd get such a bad sound on an x-pipe like that just becuse I removed the cats. You have the same thing except an H instead of an X and yuo say it sounds good. Mine sounds good at points, but bad at others. I'm pretty sure you showed me a video of yours or someones that had the same setup as me and it doesn't sound like it haha
