Sorry to see the car banged up man. I believe in karma, what comes around goes around. If indeed some spineless punk deliberately stoved in your quarter, the day will come when he also must eat a **** sandwich. It will happen.

i second this notion

sorry bout your car though

Glad to hear your brother's doing all right. Good to see you could be there for him, it's important to have family. Two years ago, you'd have been...God knows where!
Of all the places I've been in the USA, Houston is my least favorite. Reminds me a lot of Oakland, CA (OK, so make that a tie for least favorites). Every other place in Texas has been really nice.
Well, the car will fix easy enough. And you'll learn a whole new trade. Heck if you get good enough, I'll envite you out to California to help with mine Not sure if I can get Lone Star, but we do have some decent beer.
FWIW, comprehensive with a $250.00 deduct runs $212/year for me on the Mustang. Might want to consider it if you are going to spend much time at your brothers.
Best wishes to him for a speedy recovery.

Scott

That sucks about your car. The good news is that is the easiest dent to fix because you can get right behind it. A hammer and dolly should get the metal back very close and then a thin coat of filler. Block it all down and she will be good as new!

It depends what area you live in Oakland. I'm an Oaklander, have lived there almost all my life, and I love that city, sure it has a lot of bad neighborhoods, but it also has some nice areas such as the hills, Montclair, Rockridge, Jack London, Lake Merrit, Chabot park, etc. I have NEVER had a car stolen nor damaged in Oakland, NEVER had a burglary in my home, never had gangs harrased me or my family, and on, and on, and on. I don't know if you lived there (or what part), or have just passed by, but you have it all wrong about Oakland, if you really want a bad place to live in the Bay Area, try East Palo Alto or Richmond, then get back to me.

Peace.

Soaring, my Celica (riced out body kit peice of ****) was sitting peacefully on the street while i was sleeping. My dad woke me up with bad news. A tractor backed into my fiberglass and carbon fiber front end. I'd rather be pwned by a shoe than a tractor. Good luck ;)

Sucks when you are worried about a family member and some sh*thead has to pull something like that.

I would fix it. Then park it in the exact same place on the exact same kinda night, only be hiding in the bushes about fifty yards away with night vision goggles and a .30 cal with a scope. But then again I'm kinda militant like that!! Sorry to hear about your car though...

Lived in Alameda for 6 years, worked on 7th street across from the Acorn projects for 3 years ('87-'90). worked on the streets everywhere from the ports to south of China town('87-'04). Working nights, I've been shot at, and had two attempted muggings. Off Peralta, I've had homeless folks grabbing my tools out of my box faster than I could put them away. I saw a hooker get beat up by her pimp right off Lake Merit drive.
No I don't have it wrong at all. Jack London was a dive for years before they fixed it up and put in lofts. Now it's just 2 blocks from being a dive. If it wasn't for all the security, it would still be a dive.
Piedmont, Montclair, and Rock Ridge aren't Oakland, come off the hill and walk around. Work on the streets for a while and you'll see the seedy side. There's a reason for the turn over of Oakland cops, and why they have some of the best sick pay allowances, etc. The only place in the bay area as bad, is Hunter's Point. I don't go to either place after dark anymore.

Glen you don't by chance have a nephew in the Navy by the name of Bill Wren do you? I serve with a guy name Bill Wren, he has a ton of kin in Texas (in and around Tyler) and he is a Mustang buff. Just wondering, seems to fit the profile.

Sorry to see your baby get defiled like that man.

No wonder, ACORN Apartments, many years ago, I worked there as a security guard in the night shift!!!

Man, you are talking to me like I'm an Oakland newbie or something, hell, I know a LOT more about Oakland that you will ever know, you are obviously not a native of Oakland.

All those bad experiences you endured were in West Oakland, except that Lake Merrit incident you witnessed.

Of course dude, that place is horrid, hello!!!!! East Oakland is too, another ghetto.

But please, you are talking to an Oaklander man, Montclair and Rockridge IS Oakland, really dude, no wonder man, you don't even know what's Oakland and what's not, yes, Piedmont is NOT Oakland, but Montclair and Rockridge are DISTRICTS in Oakland, I repeat, IN Oakland.

Man, looks like you are just terrified of Oakland, hell, Oakland does nothing to me, nothing, you are just an outsider who loves to put Oakland down, like I said, yes, it has a high crime rate, but don't judge the entire town just because you don't know all of Oakland.

And by the way you say that Montclair and Rockridge are not part of Oakland, I take it you enjoyed your stays there, well, that was Oakland my friend. I bet you had a quiet and SAFE time dining in one of those many trendy restaurants in College Ave, you know, that cool area where OAKLAND and Berkeley meet? How you like dem apples? Oh, wait a minute, I bet you are going to say it was not Oakland, nooooooo, that place was too civilized to be part of dirty ghetto Oakland, how could that be possible, eh? Oh, here's another one, had a cool ice cream at Fenton's? That's located in Piedmont Ave, but here's the kicker, that main strip of restaurants and stores, is NOT Piedmont, yes, it's called Piedmont Ave, but it's in fact....yeap...you got it...Oakland.

Let's see, where's this paradise that you live in?

Here, get to know MY Oakland:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oakland,_California

Scroll down to these neigborhoods and districts in Oakland:

North Oakland and Montclair
▪ Claremont
▪ Golden Gate
▪ Hiller Highlands
▪ Montclair District
▪ Piedmont Avenue
▪ Pill Hill
▪ Rockridge
▪ Temescal

Montclair:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montclair%2C_Oakland%2C_California

Rockridge:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockridge%2C_Oakland%2C_California

Piedmont Ave:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piedmont_Avenue%2C_Oakland%2C_California

Claremont:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claremont%2C_Oakland/Berkeley%2C_California

So, are you still gonna lecture me about my own town of Oakland?

"No I don't have it wrong at all"

I guess you do now...LOL!

Thank you, thank you very much.

Glen,
This is really bad news ! Unfortunately an ass whippin' wouldn't do anything but exaggerate your problems.
I could never understand the mentality of mindless destruction.Letterboxes or whatever I could never get it.I think some youth have serious shortcomings and frustrations and feel the need to get some dirty water off the chests.
I'd be careful about trying to beat and metal finish the repair yourself. Is the paint acrylic or 2 pac ?
If it's acrylic it will be an easier repair.
My .02cents worth is get it done professionally or else that night in Houston will raise your gooseflesh everytime you look at the substandard repair.
I hope your brother is doing o.k :-)

sad to see the state of people today Glen. can't imagine how angry I would be. your insurance should pay for it except for your time and frustration. that's why i have Hagerty. zero deductible, and no questions asked as long as the work is not extremely overrated. keep us in the loop.

shame about the car. try this out for size! in about 1980 i was working at a tiny little gas station in itasca texas pumping gas. it was winter and we had a solid sheet on ice glazed over the road. which is rare for central texas! i had my 73 mach 1 parked on the edge of the road on old hwy 81 towards hillsboro. i had the priveledge of watching a man play around spinning on the ice and take out the entire passenger side of my car. he had no insurance, as it wasnt required back then! i didnt get a dime!

People these days. Had a drunk sideswipe one of my firebirds one night. He got his bumper unhooked from my doorjamb before I got down there with the shotgun (www.spas12.com).. good for him, he's still alive. Cops couldnt find him.

I just dont get vandalisim by kids, what is the problem? Are they mad because they dont have one or that someone actually WORKED for something they have? If I ever catch someone doing something to another persons property, they will wish they had never been born.

It could be worse Glen. I lost two engines to someone who was jealous or whatever reason they had. The first one was a race engine that had been running for a few years. It just died at the track one night. It had steel shot in the oil pan, and one of them made its way to the #7 rod journal and stuck the rod to the crank and blew the engine. The other one is the $9000 race engine I built last year, someone dumped something down the carb, it bent 4 valves, wasted one piston, two rods, one cylinder was cracked, the head had two holes in it from the valve being shoved back through it next to the guide hole. So far the repairs to it have are $4000. I could have built another engine with that money, or done something with my kids. It had 6 half passes on it then it died. I saved for a long time to build that, and used a good chunk of my per diem from my lat TDY.

yes.. I want to end someones exsistence...
