Chuck ~ Thank you and thanks for the Heads-Up on the Ride Height Very interesting !? Meeting with Dealer tomorrow and I will bring this up. Do you know the ride height of the Prototype ? The Spec Card I got from the Dealer says, in short; Saleen Racecraft Suspension including N2 Struts - Front and Three Link Saleen Racecraft Direct Acting Linear Rate Coil Springs and N2 Shocks - Rear.
Don't know the show car ride height, but it looked like it was slammed pretty low. One could do that with any car - I was just a little bummed out that the production versions won't have that stance in stock form.
The PJ will have the s281 racecraft suspension WITH THE ADDITION of the Watt's link rear-end instead of the Panhard bar/rod. This allows for a more linear movement with less lateral arc / crawl over the bumps : This is a 'throw-back' to the actual suspension setup of the 70s car. It would have been cool to have IRS, but that is another topic....
Also,
our car build dates are 2 days away from eachother, which aligns with your 15 / day rate. It also tells me I'm probably gonna have to wait a bit longer than the first week in December like I was told...
I think I called that one last week. I was hoping Saleen would leave the car at that ride height but ???? Oh well. I think it says on the Saleen website that the car will have coilovers. If so you should be able to crank it down a bit. It probably rides like shi* that low but looks great!
The production PJ cars do sit higher than the proto car did. You guys waiting for one, should have them soon. All they are building right (in Irvine) now are the PJs. There is a sea of Grabber Orange everywhere.....the production line, paint dept. etc. Saleen is shipping all the F150s and Mustangs to Troy to be built their.
Hi Chuckdoc ~ Would have been interesting to have a PJ IRS however I don't think that was in the 1970 PJ I drove a Saleen S281 Supercharged jesterday. A real head turner. Had it up to 100 mph right out of the dealer parking lot and did not even push it. Loved how tight it was. No throttle lag at all. Superb fit an finnish by Saleen. Found the seats a little hard compared to my Bullitt. The exhaust was rather quiet. Prefer the sound of the Bullitt over the Saleen. More of a Muscle Car sound. A guy came in and bought it 15 minutes after Itest drove it. Traded in a HI-Po Mini for ture American Muscle. Good choice, eh. 21 + days and counting !!! I figure December 15th or sooner. Kenardo
Chuckdoc ~ Parnelli Up-date. Received the Ford Certificate of Origin today from my Dealer. My Pony was made September 21, 2006 at Ford Plant then delivered to Villa Ford in L.A. / Saleen Performance. Good old #099 could be on the Car Carrier early next week to Frontier Ford in beautiful Anacortes, Washington ready for pick-up early December. Now its strating to sink in !!! I wonder where the first 50 + are ??? Some one must have seen one on the road by now, wouldn't you think. Kenardo
Okay... This is funny... I just noticed those pics are from Midwest City, OK. My Tulsa, OK dealer called me today saying the Midwest City dealer got their PJ in and we could do a vehicle trade for me to get that one #57 instead of the one I was waiting on #126. I said, "Sure!" and was told to expect delivery of this one Monday or Tuesday next week.
Next thing I know, I'm looking at pictures of THAT VERY CAR on ebay!! Dunno if they just didn't have time to cancel the auction or they decided against letting me have the Midwest City car?!
Very interesting. Of course, now it's too late to get ahold of my local dealer and ask them what's up.
Looks great Chuck. I hope you can get yours early! Have you talked to Saleen to see if the coil overs are adjustable so you can lower that bad boy a little bit? I just got so used to seeing the pre production car that's slammed. I was standing next to the guy who posted that picture at Saleen's HQ's last Sept. when Parnelli and Steve drove by. That car is low and looks great!
Chuckdoc ~ I smell a RAT !!! Something fissssshy with the Midwest City Ford Dealer ??? Good old car dealer greed. I find it rather strange that a dealer would put the PJ on EBay in the first place but then he's probably one of those dealers who maked up the GT500 $20,000.00 or more. Although on the other hand it may show the foruntate few like your and me that the PJ is going to be worth more than MSRP in the future, at least this dealer thinks so !!! Another question is why does the PJ on EBay have 65 miles on it ??? I know that the Saleen Test Drivers do a few laps around the block in Irvine to make sure everthing is running OK, but I don't think that they put that many miles on it ?! I say go with the flow and take delivery of the PJ your dealer ordered for you. I'm going to have to wait for mine till Dec. 15 when I return form my annual golf trip to Palm Springs. Maybe I'll see one there ? In the mean time enjoy your Turkey and the wait.
Also, The Steve Saleen and Parnelli Jones stickers above the door are static cling ones like the numbers. They are removed in the pics but should come with the car.
Chuck ~ Thank for the heads up on the Name Stickers. I assumed that these were painted on, at least the Parnelli Jones one. Looks rather KOOL ! I also noticed in the pics that the dash was signed by both PJ and SS. Hope they did that to all of them !!!
