I have a Q about cams, if you replace the cams, does it require a tune?

ORIGINAL: techmanBDsStang I have a Q about cams, if you replace the cams, does it require a tune? Comp cams has 4 stages. Per Comp cams tech guy, Stage 1, no tune, stage 2 desirable, stage 3 and 4, yes, you must tune. I went with stage 3 which they say will compliment my existing mods and dynotune perfectly. Per Brenspeed, 38 to 42 rwhp gain should be expected. We'll see!

I may be wrong, but I believe the Brenspeed kit includes more than just the cams, whereas from BBR its just the cams.

Yes, the kit comes with cams, springs and retainers. By the time you figure all that in it is a great deal. Cheaper than directly from Comp.

Do you have steeper gears in your car? Are they a recommendation with these cams?

Here's a small clip of the stage 4 after install... http://s56.photobucket.com/albums/g184/2006GT500/?action=view¤t=WillComps006.flv They are not as aggressive as the BBR stage 2's. Here is a vid of my friend Jordan's car with the BBR's... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ELnjJlCxuc I still think you are paying just for the sound you like with any of the available cams out there for us. As far as performance, you really don't get anything more than you can get with the stock cams IMO. Just look at justin burcham (new world record last week 9.25 et) and david beyer (9.54 ET) - both guys on the stock cams - and pretty much everyone running in the low 11's and below is on the stock cams... The stock cams are probably one of the best features of the S197 and it's not like the chevy guys who get the great benefit from a cam swap - for us, you basically want them primarily for the sound.
