I am interested in getting the FIPK part number 57-2545 for my 04 Cobra but, I have a few questions.
1) They (K&N) do not list a part number for the 04 Cobra, can I use the 03 part?
2) They (K&N) claim to have a 30.2 hp increase over the stock filter, this sounds strange to me, can anyone varify this?
3) this one os for anyone who has installed this on their car. Is drilling necessary?
The 03 will work on the 04. The instructions require one hole to be drilled as a support, but most people don't do it as it uses a bracket that mounts to a factory location. It seems to give it enough support.
You will see a nice S.O.T.P. difference. The tuner in my area says that it and the Densecharger average about 20-25 to the wheels.
It will also enhance the blower whine. I believe that it's worth it.
With that and a cat-back, you will see ~400 hp to the wheels.
S.O.T.P. Seat Of The Pants (aka...the old butt meter)
The Densecharger is another CAI that mounts in the fenderwell. It typicaaly dyno's the highest #'s on our cars with the K&N FIPK coming in a close second. There is only a few HP difference, but the price and ease of installation usually lets the K&N win out.
S.O.T.P. = seat of the pants, the best dyno out there
Densecharger= a cold air intake that uses plastic material rather than metal, meaning the material does not heat up like meatl keeping intake temps. cooler and providing more horsepower.

DnB. if your on a budget, you can get a cheap metal intake, and wrap it in fiberglass tape. it will work just like the densecharger, but will cost 1/3 as much.
Thanks for the heads up on the drilling. So you are saying that it might not be necessary?
Dave
I have talked to people who have done it both ways. Some are anal about drilling holes in a new car. The hole is drilled in a corner of the fenderwell. The heat shield attaches to it. The shield also attaches to a hole already there, plus a bracket that is mounted piggyback on a radiator support I believe.
I did not drill the hole as I thought the other two gave it plenty of support.
Just about any CAI you choose will probably require drilling a hole.
Why was this moved? It was originally posted in the Pipes, Boost and juice forum which the discription states "Talk about Exhaust, Nitrous, Blowers, Turbos, Superchargers... whatever makes you go faster!!" and the FIPK makes the car go faster. I don't understand, please help. (I am not trying to be a smart ass or anything like that, I just want to know for future posts.)
rtm,
I think I am one of those anal guys, I don't want to put any holes in my car.
