Because the 275/4X/17 is such a popular tire size, I thought I'd shed some light on the subject.

You CAN squeeze a 275 wide tire onto your stock 17x8" rims, however, it's very tight and they do tend to buge slightly, which forces the center ridge of your tire outward, which can mean less contact with the sides = less traction. Probably not noticeable and can be solved by airing down your tires at the track.

Also, when going with aftermarket wheels, a 275 width tire is the SMALLEST width you should be putting on a 9" wide wheel. I did run 245's on a 9" rim, but if you ever have a blowout, it will destroy the rim and also 245's provide little to no protection against curbs, etc. There's a reason cobras run 275's all the way around on 9" wide wheels.

true words about 245's on a 9 inch wheel not being curb friendly, my rims are proof.

On a slightly related topic what is the widest tire you can put on a 9 inch rim without any safety issues?

You could prob. put a 285/40/17 on a 9" rim.

You would need at least a 9" wheel for the 275/40-17 tire to fit properly. I believe the stock wheel for a 06 gt is less.

I hate when the tire looks like it's stretched over the rims. I see lots of that here.

I shredded a 235/45/17 kumho KH-11 going 75mph on a 17x7 rim and the rim wasn't damaged at all, the sidewall on those things is thick!

So, then I shouldn't have any trouble in fitting the following on my current 18 x9 Chrome Bullitts?

265/40ZR18 97Y BSW 80444 9 - 10.5 10.7 on 9.5 26.3 10 791 1609@44

I just put 18x9 chrome bullits on my 06 GT. I put on 275/40/18's all around and they look really good. The tires come just about to the edge of the fender. Gives a nice wide footprint look.

I know there's different strokes for different folks, but i'd look into putting stock 06 wheels on a 99-04 car. The back spacing is different and they look funny in my oppinion. They sit way too far up under the fenders. But everyone has a preference of their own. When i bought my car, it has 06 wheels on it, and i took the back roads back to my house so noone would see it. Might wanna do some reseach first, and if you already have, good luck.
