Great post burrito! Everytime I'm in my car out someplace it starts conversations. Also when I have contractors here at the house they also just go crazy for it. I took my friend (also my carpenter) on a quick spin and he loved it.

GO BRUINS! (I think they will fire Dorrell this year)

Bravo, ElBurrito!
Having four seats is as big a deal for me as having the coolest car on the road.

Having just sold my 03 M3 convertible, I can say that even that car has had its share of problems too.

I dont believe there is any perfect cars.

Before the M3, I drove a Mercedes SLK. I bought the car because I figured Mercedes had a good track record for quality. Boy, I was sure wrong. That car had more problems than I could think of. What made me mad more than anything else was that when I took to car into the dealership for some repair work, I commented to the service guy that I bought the car because in the past Mercedes has always had good quality cars. The service guy replied ' People dont buy a Mercedes for the quality, they buy it for the NAME'. Needless to say, I sold the Mercedes and have not bought one since.

Agreed! I love my Saleen despite the challenges. The love grows when I can drive her and shrinks when she's in the shop. I guess that's not exactly "unconditional love" is it?

Well I went to pick up my car today....putting the new corner piece back on the car the paint chipped.... My usual luck...The paint guy said he'd fix it...The good thing is I had the other corner piece I had brought back from the Ford dealership...We put it on temporary and I finally got to bring my car home...And my 3rd brake light appears RED not Pink...It is a row of LEDS...So hopefully I have the right one...My side window louvers still feel tight... My car was real dusty from dust and stuff from the paint shop so I pulled it into a little car wash...I had a couple of guys looking at my car...One thought it was the new Shelby ...lol...one was taking pictures with his cell phone camera...Saying thats a SALEEN ...thats a SALEEN....they really liked it and were excited about the car...you don't get those reactions with every car out there...

Yay! Now go out and enjoy the car! Maybe put off having the paint chip fixed until you're on vacation. I cry a little every time I get a little chip, but I drive it daily, so that's to be expected.

I've owned 9 Mercedes; including, an E55 AMG, and quality control is mediocre.

1. Glad to bring some positive vibes to the forum. Ultimately, we're all passionate about cars and we all seem to love our Saleens. That's what keeps me coming back to read all of your insightful comments, thoughts, and suggestions.

2. Nice to hear walc and abbas confirm that the euro-lux cars can have quality issues as well. I myself only buy American , though its tougher to say what "American made" is anymore.

3. dot -- I hope UCLA gives Dorrell another year or two. He found a great defensive coordinator. Now he just needs to get an offensive coordinator as good as Tom Cable was.

Yeah he's a good level headed head coach. I think they'll can him though if they don't get a bowl bid.

While I might agree with the uplifting, put our hands together and sing kumbya "its not bad quality control" posts- I think somewhere a point is missed.

How can we compare quality and/or bugs in a car that is already built, and then drop shipped to another place to be FITTED with AFTERMARKET panels and a S/C- to a car that rolls down an assembly line, with thousands of others, where numbers of different people touch it and build it from the ground up with everything from fuses to engines?

I have had a TON of nice cars too- BMW, Corvette, NSX, HiPo trucks..you name it. Ya know what? I never had body panels suddenly come apart or have things blow off the car at 70 mph. Did I ever have problems? Sure. But I can't really say I can be too pissed when an ABS module goes out on my BMW, when BMW makes THOUSANDS of cars a year. Did some vehicles break down? Sure, a few. But I didn't wait long to get parts and service- many times I had my vehicle back in less than a day.

We are talking about a car in our Saleen that is Limited Production, and only has parts ADDED to it. If you are kicking out 1500 cars a year, there should be no excuse for fasteners missing, panels popping loose, or paint that doesn't match. No excuse for runs in the paint, or chips and gouges in the paint BEFORE it gets to the dealer. No excuses for parts that take weeks to get to a dealer. No excuses, period. Its not a mass production car.

Kick out 20,000 a year, and then we can dice it up, dance and sing, and chalk it up to "mass production".

Simple as that.

Point well taken.

I agree the Mustangs Saleens are not fully hand built and they are really limited should come out perfect.

I had problems with cars before but it has only taken days not weeks to receive parts.

Every car has its problems but by far everything that Saleen has put on the car has had to be adjusted or re-adhered in some way.

It’s kind of pitiful for such an expensive mustang.

I think you're missing my point, which is that when one buys a Saleen, they're getting performance, looks, and exclusivity; possibly at the expense of paint quality or body fit. Moreover, to get the "whole package" of high performance, high quality paint, and high quality body fit, one would have to pay 2x to 4x what they'd pay for a Saleen.

I agree body panels should not be flying off. I've never had that problem, and I don't believe most others have either. I'm sorry you've had such issues.

As for other manufacturers, I know folks with BMWs, MBs, and even Vettes who have had interior trim pieces fall apart, power windows open erratically, signal lights that don't work, trunks that won't open, and all kinds of engine problems. Such problems from major manufacturers is even more remarkable since, I would guess, it is much EASIER to produce 50,000 BMW 330s with a high quality paint job and perfectly fit panels because more $$$ can be invested in the car's design and production process (which is likely handled largely by electronic/automated processes).

Ultimately, I'm not trying to get everyone to sing kumbaya. I'm just pointing out what we're getting for our dollar and what our alternatives are at this price point.

I could not disagree more. Although I have had some issues with Saleen's responsiveness (which they corrected in my case) and Ford dealer service quality, for the most part I have been very lucky with the looks, performance, paint, fit, etc. of my car. If I bought a car, at any price, regardless of whether it was mass-produced or limited edition, and it didn't meet all of my criteria, I'd take it back in a nanosecond. Why on earth is it advisable -- or even okay -- for the customer to settle? Will that make better cars going forward? Anybody remember the Japanese car invasion?

Do you think Steve Saleen, his investors, or anyone with a room temperature IQ at Saleen is OKAY with producing a sub-standard product? They sat in a meeting and said "Well, we'll make a limited edition high performance car that looks cool but let's not worry too much about exterior quality, post production QC or customer service."?? If I were SAR, or any of the other good people who have gone out of their way to help at Saleen, I'd be offended by your low expectations. As a professional, I'm motivated by the high expectations of my clients. They make me better!

Likewise.
I expect most, if not all, of us are well paid. I doubt any of us expect to remain well paid, if we deliver sub-standard work product.
Saleen is a, comparably, very expensive Ford Mustang GT. So, why should we settle for a premium price product with more flaws than a base Mustang?

That's the conundrum. You know some people do care about quality but clearly there's nothing in place to insure it. There are some simple examples where having a checklist or procedure in place would avoid problems.

The best example of this total lack of professional procedure is with Abbas' PCM module that is still wrong after three tries. There is no excuse for shipping a faulty PCM. It reminds me of the hilarity of the credits on Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Those responsible for the sacking have too been sacked.

Will somebody pm me when we finally let this topic go? That way, I can come back to read the Saleen forum. Right now, this thread is like a wreck on the side of the highway... I don't want to read it, but if I see it pop up again, I can't help but look!
