I've thought about this a lot.. since I have a black one too... but I'm fond of the stock wheels (same as yours). I don't... I like the classic look a little better. I think the 17's are balanced nicely with the car.
However.. If I had the money.. I might think about lowering just a little bit.. makes those wheels look beefier.

Yea thats what I want to do, but I figure if I get bigger wheels it will close the gap alittle.

True.. Try to find a balance between what you want it to look like, what you want it to ride like... and what it will cost you. 17 inch wheels are not exactly small.. but I do like bigger wheels. Lowering looks fantastic.. but makes for a bumpier ride.
I live in the city.. and there are just way too many pot-holes and steep garage ramps for me to lower the car.
I know this isn't helping you much .. but just letting you know how I approached this.

I figured I'd keep mine unique.. by keeping the exterior stock.. accept for the tinted windows and GT take-off exhaust...

Try this...

I really liked black.. not too sure about it now. Gun metal looks sweet. Chrome is a little too flashy/car show for my taste.. not to say I don't like chrome.. but just not what I want to drive around with.

black rims dude....so then when a cop turns around to come after you, you can turn ur car and lights off and drift into a side street and he'll never see you at night. We do it in my friends car whenever that happens and if he actually finds you you just say oh sorry, i thought i was pulling into a safe place so that we weren't on the side of a road

These types of questions are subject to opinion. Well, my favor falls towards two types. The classic Bullit style and the Razor! attached are the wheels chosen for my ride. I enjoy the chrome on black look. very clean looking. These are 20" bullit Deep dish. Hope this helps. Good driving.

My vote is either Chrome or Clearcoated Black. Ive seen the flat balck rims -- ugh. The silver or charcoal would look good but if your goin for the real nice look and have a bit more to spend over just take off's per say then i'd choose chrome or black personally i'd go black with the deep dish chrome lip and low pro's.

I would do 18 inch CHROME somethings. Go to PONYBUILDER.com and plug in your color and have at it. They have most of the common wheel designs on their site and you can see them on the model you drive.

I hope to have 18 inch FAN BLADES on my silver convertible someday. CHROME and my shade of silver don't really do much for the car. CHROME and dark cars are a natural. As for black wheels, I wouldn't do that unless you are doing a theme for the car that eliminates most of the shiny accessories and you decide to do a MIDNIGHT theme.

Black rims are ghey. Go With some 18 or 19" CHROME rims, itll look super charp and super clean IMO.

I'm sure YOUR opinion is important to YOU! And you are welcome to keep it, but I disagree! Now according to your opinion, the stock wheels on my wifes convertible must be way cool and nicer then the black 20" bullits I have on my Convertible. Sorry! Not a chance! (IMHO)

Oh btw the wifes convertible now is NOW sporting the same BLACK bullit 20x8.5 front and 20X10 rear, wearing 255x35x20 front and 285x30x20 BFG KDW2 for summer. Her winter rims are BLACK bullit 17x8.5 sporting 235x45x17 wearing studded Pirelli winter carving tires all around. I put my car away for the this winter as it's going through it transistion...

Again we each like different things and that's what makes us all unique!
