Even though Magnaflow says that the system is designed for headers or stock manifolds, they do NOT bolt up to stock manifolds. I ordered the 2 1/2" system the middle of September, and had it within 2 weeks, as Magnaflow was backorderd at the time with this system. (Yes, it is a GREAT deal, and many are taking advantage of it). My installer had to put a bend in the Magnaflow pipes, and instead of bolting up to the manifolds, he cut off the existing aluminized 2" stubs, and welded the Magnaflow pipe to the stub. It looks pretty ugly looking down from the engine, but that is ok as I will probably have headers next year. If you have a talented installer, they could probably bend up some new piping for you to mate up with stock manifolds. I have a 4-speed, and snaking the system around the Z-bar would have taken half a day. I could have done that, but then the cost goes up considerably for the labor. The system would bolt up to full length headers very nicely though. Shorty style headers will still need some fabrication work.
The SS tips provided with the kit are downturn style. If you want to run it through your valance, you can, you will just need to buy new tips.
I have now had my system for just short of a month. The sound is NOT quiet by any means, but it is not obnoxiously loud either. It made my little 289 sound VERY healthy. I do have a minor resononce at 2000RPM, but it is nothing like I had with the 2" system with generic turbo mufflers and resonaters that was on my car. That system drove me nuts. The Magnaflow has a nice throaty rumble to it, and when you get on it, people notice! I was talking with a friend of mine at a job site, and I had my car along. When I left the jobsite, I got on it a little in the first three gears. He called me later that day and said the car sounded fantastic when I left. A nice performance car sound, without being overly loud is how he described it. And he is in his mid 50's. If you are the type of person who drives around with "Loud pipes save lives" bumperstickers, or you are in your 20's or trying to relive them, than the system might not be enough for you. If you are looking for something louder than average, but not enough to drive your neighbors nuts, I highly recommend it. My wife is not a car person by any means, but even she really likes how the car sounds now.
And Soaring, I would like to see what system Midas put together for you. All my experience with Midas has been they get by as cheap as possible. The Ravin mufflers seem like a great choice, but what type and size of pipe did they give you? The Magnaflow system is completely manderel bent, stainless, stainless "X" pipe, with stainless band style clamps(no need for welding), "new" style push through hangers with rubber mounts(that use the existing hanger locations), polished mufflers, and polished tips. All for less than $350 to your door with the PP deal. I am into my system, installed, for less than $500. It fits nice and tight against the floorpan, and my mufflers are closer to the floorpan than the 2" system that was on my car. I do not like pipes sticking out the back of a car that does not have the valance cut outs, so I had my system "hidden". You cannot see my system from the back or the side. You do see that beautiful stainless behind the rear tires if you get close enough. These mufflers also have a nice overrun when you are slowing down in gear. I especially like letting of the gas doing about 40 to 45 in 3rd. It has a wonderful crackle to it.
I would like to record the sound, but don't know if I am computer literate enough to get the recording loaded.
The 2 1/2" kit is $348 and the 3" is $440. For one this kit is an x-pipe which is superior to the h-pipe. Second, is the Ravin kit you speak of stainless? Mandrel bent? Stainless tips? It seems to me that at $348 to your door, the Magnaflow kit could be installed for far less than $600. Never even heard of Ravin, if that's how it's spelt? It seems alot of the work done on your car was done years ago Soaring, prices have increased for this stuff, for cripes sake you had your car restored for 5K.
5 k restoration?????????
Damn, that must've been a loooooooooooong time ago, I have spent almost twice that, and my car is not even CLOSE to full restoration, I said, NOT EVEN CLOSE to restoration.

I have myself a nice pair of Hooker Long Tube Headers so this looks very interesting to finish my system off with. Most complete kits I've seen go for about 450 and up so for 350 with basically everything, thats good. I just need to get new exit tips for my GT valance...if i get the kit...i still have this love for the flows...

I found this deal on another site and passed it on here simply because I thought you would appreciate a great deal on quality parts. By posting it I did realize an additional savings of $10, whooopeee. It appears that some savings can be had on other items at the site using this code, you say it like it's a bad thing. The bottom line is that the discount price on the kit is a substantial savings if you're in the market for an exhaust kit. The next time I have an opportunity to pass on a similar savings I'll keep it to myself.

That shouldn't make you stop giving the ones who appreciated it some heads up, I for one, was extremely grateful.
There's always going to be negative people. When I posted my thread showing my modern Elite seats, some posters started criticizing me for taking out the originals, I mean come on, I spent my good hard earned money and effort into something that I wanted to do, and instead of props, nothing but negativity. However, the others who did appreciate and liked them, well, that felt good, and was good enough for me. You will never please everyone, and that's alright, but if you can help a couple of fellas, here and there, I think you will have done your civic duty.
It wasnt against you at all. Actually their way of advertisement is great, but wrong in the way that our sponsors must pay to advertise on this site. Im sure it is more then $10

Keep on posting goodies, man.
I haven't noticed any negative comments on this thread. If you are referring to me, then you aren't reading correctly. I was merely giving an alternative. Regarding your seats, you are going to get differing opinions whenever you post pictures of your car and upgrades you have made. That is just something you have to expect on here. We (all of us) are opinionated, and that is how it should be. If everybody agreed on everything, there would be no need for discussion. As far as the deal with the Magnaflow exhaust system, yes it is a good deal compared to their overpriced retail price, but may or may not be a good deal, unless you compare other comparable systems to it. EXAMPLE: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/performance/basket.php?brandid=2267&partid=83&makeid=9&modelid=111&year=1965 Thanks to Shawn for alerting us to the Magnaflow deal. Those of you who like the deal will benefit from Shawn's posting. As far as Tyler's comment is concerned, this site is being offered to us for discussion of our Classics by the vendors who advertise here to keep the site running. Whenever possible, we need to use those vendors if they have a product we need and at a price we are willing to pay. Nothing is free, and that includes this site.

It's all good. BTW, that Flowmaster system is not stainless steel.
No, it's not. I have had my regular steel system on my car for about 10 years without any rust accumulating on the pipes. I guess If I wanted to run this old gal for another 40 years, then I would consider the stainless. And, it all depends on where you live, I am sure. You snow birds may need the stainless, but then the body would rust away before the exhaust system did, so you would be sitting on the muffler, trying to shift a rusty gear linkage while using the heels of your feet as brakes on the highway. DeLorean made a car that was stainless, and we know the demise of that car. The Europeans dip their cars in Zinc to stave off the rust from the salt on the roads, but they still rust with time. Nah, parts have to be replaced on these old cars periodically, and the exhaust system is just one of those parts. I can run a steel exhaust system where I live for many years without having to replace it. I venture to say I can run a steel exhaust system, replace it after 20 years, then run it another 20 before I spend the amount for a one-time stainless system.
