Was cruising in my 2000 TA RA WS6 the other night, and went to meet up at local spot where everyone hangs out. I met up with some local guys that have stangs and camaros. I was there for a few minutes when a new 2004 WRX sti rolls in. This dude had like 4 people in his car and he was acting all hard. All the ricers are in awe, at his ugly 4dr car. Well anyways he rolls up to me and my buds. He looks around and asked this dude in a 2002 gt stang w/intake if he wanted to run. so he agreed and a few guys including me head out to go to the race spot. they do a 3 honk race, and they were off. The STI probably took the guy by about 1.5 carlenghts. I didnt know these things were that fast, so i asked him if he wanted to run. so we do the same a line up, do the 3 honk, and we were off. in first he had me by a bumper, in 2nd i pulled even, we went up to about 95mph and we let off. we were neck and neck, he maybe had a good foot ahead of me. I never knew these 4 dr's were that quick?? i just recently looked them out and found out they run low 13's stock. Ive never seen one on the road till that day. Has anyone encountered one yet?? Ive been reading more about them and found out there was a turbo upgrade that could get them in the low 12's.

Basic WRX (02-04) isn't all that fast - 227/217 or something like that. STi has a lot more power - 300/300. I'd like to line up with one at a track some day. After I get a cage. I could have 3 of my car for what they spent on the STi though. :)

Just to let you know the reason I think they are so fast is because the engine that is in them is a "Porsche Boxster" engine. The same exact one. So ya not a lot of peeps can take them.

Justin, I respectfully must say you don't know what you're talking about.
Subaru engineers (years and years ago) studied what Porsche was doing and learned as much as they could from the engineers at Porsche. But that's as far as their relationship goes. Subaru doesn't buy engines from Porsche.
Subaru engines aren't 'Boxter' engines. They are boxer engines. There's a difference. The boxer designation comes from the fact that it's a flat engine and the pistons move toward and away from eachother like they're boxing.
The current Boxter engines are both 6 cylinders. ALL of the Impreza engines are 4 cylinders, 2.5L NA in the TS/RS/OBS models, 2.0L Turbo in the WRX, and 2.5L Turbo in the STi (North America anyway). The Legacy has the 2.5L NA as well as the 3.0L flat 6, and soon enough (now?) there will be a 2.5L Turbo in the Baja (and it'll float over to the Legacy for 2005 I've heard). The Forester has the 2.5NA and 2.5 Turbo.
Boxter engines also aren't all that powerful when compared to the turbo 4bangers from Subaru.
i raced the guy from a stop, not from a roll. maybe it was just a bad race for me. but i have to admit, those sti's give you a run for your money. i am looking into ordering some exhausts?? which exhaust is good for an ls1??

GMMG! Both my F-body friends have this on the cars. They are by far the best sounding exhausts I have ever heard on f-bodies. One guy has it on his lt1 with headers, freeflow cats, and the GMMG on the end. And the other has an ls1 and is putting jet hot header and y-pipe along with it. The exhaust is a little pricey but it sounds incredible!!!

91 V6? did you replace the factory 4cylinder for a six, and why, the amount of wire harness and drive train work would have been just as much work as a 5.0 conversion, just curious because I've never heard of a fox body 87-93 6cylinder. As far as you guys talking about the STI, I smoked one so bad that I laugh at him everytime I see him now. Something doesn't sound right with the WS6 vs the STI, the turbo would prevail from a roll, but from a stop, the V8 would do much better, but would probably loose. My friend has raced this T/A 4 times now with several winesses with his stock 03 Cobra. The WS6 is an 02 model with flowmaster exhaust and 3:73's, Everytime, the stock Cobra walked on him. My point is that the Sti is pretty close to the Cobra(within a half second in the quarter) and the WS6 modified couldn't keep up with the Cobra. I really like the WS6's so don't get me wrong, I'm just saying that the Sti would give it a much better run than against an 03 snake. They raced several different times because of arguing and he lost by far everytime, so it wouldn't surprise me if it lost stock vs stock against an STi, my car has a much better edge with more power and torque to balance out the difference in traction between the two. My two cents.

Yeah Redneck I do no how much a half second is and it's not much, maybe on a peice of paper it does, but on the street, a half second doesn't promice anyone a win. My point of the half second difference wasn't that one was a half second faster, but that they both average within a half second difference in multiple different tests, the STi winning some and the Cobra winning some. I truly know the Cobra is faster, but the tests between the two seem to vary within a half second or so, maybe that explains my point a little better!

A half of a second guarantees me a win, not sure about your driving skills though. Kinda hard to screw up a half second advantage. I know what you mean, but .5 seconds is carlengths, not a few feet.

Never lost a race in the snake yet, and nothings garanteed bro, you are way to confident with yourself, that causes lost races. I've seen many cars jump a few car lengths off the line and loose in the end. I let people jump off the line all the time to see what they have just like the 03 STI, and just pass them when I can lay down full throttle. My driving skills are fine, I'm just more realistic than you and don't assume I can win. I'm not sure where we are going with this but whatever, I disagree, a couple car lengths doesn't mean anything till you win. If I ran against your Mach, you would probably be able to get a lead off the line because I have to ride the clutch into mid second, but after that at full boost/throttle I'd still catch up and pass you( that's saying both cars are stock of course). I guess we will never agree on this one bro!Ha,Ha

I've seen many of them at the track, and they average 13.1-13.3 bone stock with a proper launch. If you race them out of the hole and they launch hard, you're toast off the line, at least I would be especially on the street. From a roll, they aren't quite as fantastic. But from a dig, these things can very very easily put down low 1.7 second 60' times on factory tires! I'm jealous of their AWD. Wish I had it. Big difference between the sti's and the standard wrx's.
