Default Royal Purple

Anyone using this oil? If so, what weight are you using?

I saw where RP recommends waiting until 2000 miles have passed on a new engine before you should use their products. Kinda sucks for me- I have 47 miles on my car, and have had it 3 weeks.[:@]

I use 5/30 Royal Purple in the Saleen. I use it on my hemi too. I put it in the Saleen at 500 miles as the Saleen manual states " put in a 5w30 of high quality synthetic oil". I have used it before and love it. I use a K&N oil filter as well. Oil change every year regardless of mileage(I never drive 3000 miles) is also my schedule.

I figured if anyone was using it, it would be you, J.

So I guess it is OK to use it per Saleen's recommendations. I have heard more than once to not use synthetic until 1500 miles, so RP's statement of 2000 kinda shocked me.

Where did you pick up the RP?

And yeah, I need to take a road trip- but I picked up my car, then had to leave 3 days later to go on a 14 dy trip to Italy. Got back, and it rained for 3 days.

Hence...less than 50 miles on my ride.

Royal Purple can be had at any Pep Boys or if you have an Autobacs. E-bay has some good deals too. I have heard the statement about using synthetics a few thousand miles in too, I have heard it since I was a kid. Not sure if it is just old school thinking. I just followed Saleen's directions to the letter. I discussed the Royal Purple with one of their techs as well and he just said it was a good choice of oils.

I'm still deciding on using this stuff too. Did Saleen recommend it over the Mobil 1? Manual says Mobil 1 for the extreme.

I just had RP put into mine and the shop told me that they saw no reason to wait until 1500-2000 miles. They really questioned putting 5-30W instead of 5-20w. They did put in the 5-30W because that what Saleen says, but they wondered why when all the internals in a SC 281 are stock and a stock GT uses 5-20W.

IMHO, 5w-20 is way too thin.
