Just thought I'd ask, What are your thoughts on the new Camaro comming out? Me personally I love it. Great lines, love the interior, and the engine area is sweet.
We've had quite a few discussions in this section about the upcoming Camaro. It's usually a split.......roughly half the guys looking forward to seeing it in action.......and the other half thinking its gonna bomb. Funny thing is that these impressions are right about even with those of current and former Camaro guys that I've talked to.
Me personally, I think it has potential. There are things about the concept that I don't care for aesthetically, but who knows what will change between now and the production version. I think the overall lines are aggressive and nice. They just need to make the right decisions on the styling as they proceed towards production.
As for as performance-wise.....it's hard to comment. There's been no official word on what kind of powerplant/s the new Camaro's will be running. All we know, or keep hearing, is that their will be a 400hp LS2 model somewhere in there. The only things that'd concern me (if I were a potential buyer) is the IRS they plan on implementing. That, along with the extra poundage its likely to tack on, has me worrying that this could end up being another GTO. I think the smart route to go would have been a solid axle....keep the weight and costs down....make it as competitive with the current mustangs as possible. I fear that an LS2 powered IRS equipped pony car will price out in the low 30's.....if not mid 30's. That will put it out of contention with the Mustang GT for sales competition. And while there are plenty 03/04 Cobra and GTO owners out there that may disagree with me......I'd rather not have to deal with launching such a powerful and heavy car on IRS, unless it was a low-set lightweight car like the Corvette.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see what GM's next release about the car is. Only time will tell how well the new Camaro will do.
I like it, I see alot of the 69' in there. I owned a 95 Z/28, which I loved. Like This blood said there are some issues to work out, but I would love to see the Camaro running around with the Mustang(hopefully with 400HP of its own).
after watching them 2 concepts ( camaro-challenger) and hearing them ... the challenger was a WHOOOSHIT SWEET car to me ... and the camaro was a ****ty looking car... loved the lines but not the front or rear faces... but now i like the camaro's front and side view but i still hate the way that camaro has something similar to the vettes tail light...
and about the challenger... I still think its nice looking... but the eyes get used to it and it begins to be something old .. dont get me wrong i love muscle looks ... but imo dodge didnt change alot in the car except the grill and tail light ( with minor few stuff )
overall .... i cant wait to see them ripping the streets .... because one day close too .... the mustang will roll out as a new look and there will be a great competition between the 3 of them ...
And im looking forward for the upcoming ford mustang... i just hope ford wont screw up in the design and power... 4.6 is enough for over 10 years ... we need displacment to keep up with others... our 4.6's had no problem competing with the 5.7's but they are now moving to 6.1 and 6.0 .... we need at least to be 5.8 or 6.1 ( hurricane series motors ) and PLZ not 2 valves ... 3 VALVES ....
sorry about changing the topic a little but i had to say this... i hate the way everyone changes his face when i say it's still a 4.6 .....
seen it at the woodward cruise look more caddy than chevy i thought but it doesnt matter gm will screw it up . remember the old f cars from the country that gave us rock n roll (i didnt know qubec canada gave us r n r ) detroit muscle should at laest come from the USA not canada or australia(gto)

As far as style goes, the Camaro has that covered nicely. It's a happy car. Seriously it is. Look at the grill, car's always smiling.
Power however, claims are usually large on concepts. I'll wait until the water-down effect hits with production before I comment on what goes on with handling/horses/torque/etc.
Ford did a much better job capturing the true spirit of the Mustang styling with the 05+ models. The Camaro concept is only similar to the original. It wouldn't make me trade-in my new Mustang.

I think that's the main problem I've been having with the styling of the Camaro concept.......in alot of ways it just doesn't "look" like a Camaro. I feel that the side profile is about the only tie to previous generation Camaro's that it has. This is supposed to represent an iconic pony car. If it can't get away with not having any badges to tell you what it's supposed to be, then it fails to live up to its legacy. Sure, I'm all for moving forward and doing something different. But there's a thin line between moving a legacy forward into the future, and ditching it completely for something totally different and new.
Having said this, I wish I had a pic of the first concept they made for the new Camaro.....the one that was scrapped at the 2 minute warning before unveiling because it looked "too" much like the first gen Camaro. I would love to get everyone's impressions on that thing. I'll have to see if I can find it.
Ok, these are the only shots of the original aborted Camaro concept I could find. Take a look. The first pic compares the original concept (top) with the final released version (bottom). The other pic compares both concepts to a first gen model.
All I no is if Ford only up's the 2009 mustang to 350 hp I will jumping ship to a new Camaro (6.2L 450 HP).................30,000 dollars..........Sick of Ford messing around with this little 4.6 motor.

Sorry to keep breaking it to you guys.......but you're not gonna drive off the Chevy lot with a 450hp Camaro for 30K. MSRP on the 400hp models will likely range from 31K-36K. The top of the line 450+hp model is expecting to price out in the upper 30's or low 40's. If you find a place that ends up selling them for the same price as a Mustang GT, lemme know.......I can make some money on Ebay.
This is why GM would be smart to offer a sub-400hp model for the Camaro........maybe with the new 5.3 (as some have talked about). That car could compete head to head with the Mustang GT both in price and performance. But as for seeing a 400+hp Camaro pricing under 30K.........I wouldn't hold my breath. The GTO was the cheapest 400hp car available on the market anywhere (MSRP 31-34K).........GM isn't gonna get cheaper than that with more hp without cutting lots of corners. The base platform isn't where the cost difference between models comes from.......it's from the powerplants.
Im gonna have to disagree...but then again well never really know for sure till its actually out, but from what Ive heard and know about their pricing is they want it to be about where it was high to low 20 for a V6, V8 now with a ls2 is an easy 400 low to mid 20 for a z28 and 450 ss I could see at mid to high 20's or maybe high 20 low 30 somewhere in there, thats where the old camaro left off, I think the most expensive I saw in 02 was a Convt 35th anniv edit for 36. But again We will just have to wait and see, I think ...... and hope thats what they do. Otherwise They may have a hard time I think with the market. The GTO is also a more refined car...meaning creature comforts, which is why it was more expensive. The Camaro is a best bang for the buck kinda car IMHO. And I like that. Heres keeping my fingers crossed.
the thing most people seem to forget is Camaro's have always been the best performance for less money dollar for dollar they are better than even a vette if you figure out power and cost its a no brainer they have also always produced more power than a mustang and been cheaper or right in the same price catagory but what would I know I am just a dumb ass F-body owner. that was my 2 cents yall have fun
