wow that blows is ford going to do anything because they hadn't sent you the recall yet. I got mine done about 4 or 5 months ago. So they knew about it long before this. I accually heard about it before the recall accually came out and i went to ford and they didn't know what I was talking about but then when the piece of paper comes in the mail they suddenly know everything.
Wow man, I dont even know what to say. Sorry to hear about your car, for the most part seems like you are ok, not hurt bad. Keep us updated, that is very unfortunate.

That really sucks willy. I was just thinking about how I didn't like my yellow convert because of the black rims and said that yours looked heck of alot better. At least the hydrant stopped you as opposed to children, if that comforts you any.
man another terminator bites the dust. I really feel for you man. Are you sure your ok. Thank god your alive. If this helps i found this on a website about the recall.

Ford Announces Recall of All 2003-2004 Cobras for Carpet Fix/Sticking Gas Pedal
The NHTSA recently concluded its investigation into reports that the gas pedal on 2003-2004 Mustang Cobras could become snagged on the carpet trim under the pedal. As a result of the investigation, Ford has issued a recall on all 2003 and 2004 Cobras for a fix. Details of the fix are below.
Make : FORD Model : MUSTANG Year : 2003 Manufacturer : FORD MOTOR COMPANY NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 06V108000 Recall Date : APR 03, 2006 Component: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL Potential Number Of Units Affected : 19140 Summary: ON CERTAIN MUSTANG COBRA PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE REAR SURFACE OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL MAY COME INTO CONTACT WITH FLOOR CARPETING DURING HEAVY THROTTLE APPLICATION. THE UNIQUE SURFACE PROFILE OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL MAY CATCH IN THE CUTOUT ON THE FLOOR CARPETING BEHIND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. Consequence: THIS COULD INTERFERE WITH THE PEDAL'S ABILITY TO RETURN TO AN IDLE POSITION. UNEXPECTED, CONTINUED THROTTLE APPLICATION AND/OR INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES MAY OCCUR WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A SHIELD OVER THE CUTOUT IN THE CARPET BEHIND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON APRIL 26, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FORD AT 1-800-392-3673. and yeah it does not surprise me if you get rediculous bill for fire hydrant.
had buddy take telephone pole and couple of trees and city sent him a huge bill.
it's stupidly expensive cause you've got a "government" doing the work, just add 3 zero's to the cost of anything once you get a government agency involved.
Before TSA took over airport security it was done privately for about 700mil a year now TSA spends 5 BILLION!!!!!, you feel any safer?
I think you're up a creek as far as getting anything out of Ford...........

^anytime freewilly. Man you hear bout all of these street racing crashes, and people being stupid and drunk and just f ucking around. But you rarely hear bout a serious crash where the manufacturer of the vehichle is the culprit. Thats really messed up. Is there any recalls on 99 cobras beside the lack of horsepower, and the rear knuckle thingamajiger. Man it makes you really think about what you have in life when you survive crazy things like that. Like when you get really hurt all of the sudden and your addrenaline is just rushing and you just flop around and then after a min or two you realize your going to live.....man its crazy. Yea it happended to me when i was on my bicycle i was going like 35 mph down a hill and the handle bars just wobbled like a mofo and then i just wiped out and broke a rib and arm and fractured my leg.

Sorry to hear about your car. Something I alway think about is emergency situations. I earned a couple of pilot licenses over the past few years, and a major part of the training is to absolutly know stone cold what to do in an emergency and do it without thinking about doing it. Nothing you can do about it now freewilly, but I urge everyone to think about what they would do if this happened to them. If you're really ready for it, you could pull the ebrake, and put in the clutch and shut it down. Might cause a little damage, but its better than hitting a fire hydrant/car port/person...yall get the point. Gas sticking, brakes going out, steering going out, whatever. I know its a small chance of i happening, but it clearly does happen, so just think about it every one in awhile.
Freewilly, I hope everything goes the best for you. Try to get $ out of Ford (good luck) or just hit up insurance. That's why you pay it every month. Who knows, maybe your insurance will take legal action against ford.
once you knew the pedal was stuck why not put the car in neutral, all it would take is a pull of the dtick and all that would have happened is your engiine would bounce on the rev limiter till you shut it off. I jsut had that recall performed a few weeks ago. but i had the carpet cut out behind the pedal a while ago. heard of this happening to a few other guys but they were able to shut the car off before they hit anything.

Kinda what I was saying...It's easy to look back now and say what he shoulda done, but when youre sitting behind the wheel of a 400 hp car thats stuck wide open, its a whole different ballgame.
Just out of curiosity though, why were you wide open in a subdivision?

I could almost guarantee that would be Ford's scapegoat to get out of compensating you for the accident. Our legal system sucks...in a perfect world that would be all on their shoulders to help you out, but unfortunately, if you ever tried to pursue anything against Ford, it would probably just end up producing a bigger headache and more legal expenses (plus it sounds like you will be tied up good with a 10k hydrant! that is freakin' rediculous!). Now THAT may be something that you can challenge using the official recall statement from ford. If you argue that the crash was a result of this manufacturing defect, then you may have a chance in hell to at least get out of the hydrant fines.
In any case, good luck and sorry to hear about your car.
