i have a 2000 silver v6, and i want to customize the hell out of it.  i am 19 years old, and my father, who is very into his 2002 corvette zo6 which is cranking out damn near close to 500 rpm tells me that its not worth it to do the kind of stuff im interested in to a v6, that i should just save my pennies and get a gt or a cobra.  i want to put a stalker body kit on, and basically every mod short of turbo and nos for now.  i can only do so much with $12 an hour as an appliance salesman. any input would be greatly appreciated,

YOu hould save the cash and get 8 cylinders. And honestly, if you're not going to get into real power adders (a body kit is far from it), I'm gonna have to call ricer on this one.

$12 an hour? That'd be nice. The most I've ever made was $7 an hour.

yea, dont waste your money on ricer mods. if a V8 is on your mind, you've been bitten by the power bug. no matter what you do to that V6, you'll still want that V8.

LOL. Seems like you guys have no clue what you are on about. A V6 is very well worth it to soup up. First off, the insurance costs a LOT less than a V8 would. Especially if your younger than 25. I got my 6 banger pony used from a person that took really good care of it. (Mobil 1 every 3k). I continue to do that as well. 190HP stock is pretty slow, I must admit, but not once you soup it up!!!. I've been very happy with my stang since day 1.


Now im not saying adding a supercharger would be most beneficial, but as far as a Cold air induction, free flow exhaust, shorty headers and some other good upgrades really make a big difference in power. I'm not exactly sure how much power I have gained from stock but you can definitly feel the difference once you floor the accelerator on the highway. I love that WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH sound from that sweet cold intake charge.


Now i am focusing on body kits and maybe interior upgrades.

A V6 will never have the potential that a V8 has. Ever.

Granted, the things you're listing do imporve power, they do on any motor. But, they will help much more on the V8's. Theress more power for the same price to be had there.

If you've got a mustang and are looking to go fast, why the hell don't you have a V8? My Saturn's more than a match for most V6 mustangs!

Then yo'ure aren't looking to go fast! A FAST V6, despite what your personaly brand preferance is, would be the GM 3.8L V6.

Go look at Turbo Regals, Turbo Trans Ams, GTP's (gasp, a FWD! that can be in 11's for change!), ect.. Notice they all come boosted from the factory with lower c/r ratios.

Those are fast. Can be modified extremely cheaply/fast. And they will rip the balls off of your V6, which my Saturn can probably take out.

jeep..chill a lil remember every one has different taste as you choose a saturn and I choose something different ok we all have opions I love the grand nationals one of the best car...but when I was in college I had a syclone.........if you like the car do want you feel it right..granted a v-8 is the way to go...but the v-6 might satisfield your hungry for speed. if this is a car that you know you will trade later  buy some nice used go-fast parts and keep the $$ for the body kit toward your next mustang. you don't have to buy everything new and this lets you stretch your $$$ more my 2 cents vfast37860.8261111111

No, no, no, see, I was kinda forced into Saturn, and I can't wait untill I have twice the cylinders to play with. You see, I have the most powerful Saturn motor in my ride, the only difference being 8 valves in the head.

The Mustang V6 is a dog. It's really not worth it if you want to go fast, a V8 is the way to go, actually, the only way to go.

thanks for the comments kids, but im still torn.  the point of the story is that as i said before, money is a factor, and i need to factor in how much more it would cost than my six-shooter.  and by the way, ive six cylinder that would rip almost any of your cars a third tailpipe.  another consideration is that if i mod the hell outa my six banger, i will never get that money back in the end if i decide to sell it off.

plus, theres something about having someone laugh at my sixer, then it making treadmarks down their face.  and also theres someting to be said to have somewhat of a quieter engine than the eight cylinder when im a 19 year old driving a mustang.  all i need is a cop behind me thinking i was revving my engine at a red light when really it was my eight cylinders and mods talking and not my right foot.

But my v6 cost more to get to 327 rwhp than I paid for the car!! It wasn't worth it. BUT..... it did keep me satisfied untill I could afford a V8. His car may be fast, but it wont tear the cobra a third tailpipe. I guarantee it. My v6 was fast, but it was not in the same category as a modded v8. A SN95 Cobra (you can get one for around $18,000 nowadays) with minor mods has torn the balls off my v6. A v6 can be a fun car, but it will never be a match for a v8. But would I go back and change it? Never. That v6 handled WAAAYYYY better than the cobra does. I almost regret selling it. Yes, it is very much worth it to mod. A Procharger will get you appx. 250 rwhp, more than an 03 gt gets stock. A PC with exhaust and a chip will probably get you 265-270. but thats it. If you wanna do more, it will be freaking expensive. But it can be done. And yes, that will be quick enough to beat most STOCK v8's, but the same mods into a v8 and you'll lose every time.


to get to the point... yes it is worth it to mod it, if you want to. it can be a very fun car. Trust me, I speak from experience.

point worth noting- I had a 1998, which has about 50 hp less than a new edge v6 stang.

my basic jist is it can be a very fun car, but if you REALLY want to go fast, get a v8.


also remember- the first stangs were 6 cylinders.
