Go to the S197 info note, you will find where the leak is coming from and how to fix it. But more importantly is being aware of it first, great thread. This forum rocks.
I just noticed the water leak yesterday after it rained here in NC. The thing that sucks is that I'm leaving Wednesday morning to move back to Houston, TX and driving this car back there with my wife. Guess we'll have to take a few rolls of paper towels with us.
I wish Ford was forced to pay for rentals every time you brought your car back for a TSB. Actually, then they'd probably just stop issuing TSBs. To me, its not the hassle of taking the car to the dealership, it is the expense of paying for a rental. Even the extended warranty only provides somewhere around $30/day in rental reimbursement. It should cover the whole cost!
Got the car back and stopped at a car wash some kids were having at a gas station...no water in the floor pan, but I think the real test will be a drive through car wash w/high pressure water.
You actually let some "kids" wash your Stang? Wow. How did it come out? Any new scratches? I dont let anyone get any closer than a few feet from mine. Protected by an electric fence charger at night. Caught a dog trying to pee on my rims. When he was sniffing at them before peeing, it zapped him in the nose. Dont have to worry about that pooch ever again. Dog pee is caustic IMHO.
Sorry I didn't post about this TSB like I promised guys......I've been extremely busy with other things and haven't been able to check the TSB site as often as I did in the past. The PVT from the plant was supposed to call me when he knew the TSB publication number.......I guess I'll have to call and give him $hit about that.

Wow, the TSB lists the issue as a problem for mustangs from between 2005-2008. It's as if they have no plans of preventing the problem on the assembly line...

Exactly! Makes it sound like it is a production line design issue that won't be resolved until a new model is planned for.
The new TSB appears to address all of the "easy-fixes" that have been posted about here.
It does not however address issues such as missing sealer [calk] along the welded body seams or the base of the windshield, etc. - which have been identified here as the source of the problem on some vehicles.
It's a good example of cost-effective engineering. The only problem is that it comes at the expense of the customer.

Ford was never able to find the leaks on my 05 Convertible after 5x's in the shop. It ended up that I had to go through the Better Business Bureau. Their inspector found the leak in 3 mins. (Numerous areas around the A pillar, floor pan and dash were leaking. The ECJ J box had black mold growing in it.) Ford refused to admit the car was leaking and the dealer that sold it to me (Sunshine Ford in Newburgh NY) threatened to have me arrested if I ever brought the car on the lot again. I thought I won when Ford was ordered by the Better Business Bureau to take the car back. It cost me very close to $12,000 to get rid of the leaking piece of crap and I was stuck taking another Mustang. DO NOT ALLOW FORD TO DO A VEHICLE REPLACEMENT !!!! FORCE THEM TO DO A BUY BACK OR YOU WILL GET SCREWED !!!! Learn from my mistake. This is how it came out at the end: What Ford kept due to their leaking piece of junk (05 Convertible): $4600 downpayment $4800 one years car payments (I WAS NOT ALLOWED TO USE ANY INCENTIVES ON THE REPLACEMENT VEHICLE I HAD TO PAY STICKER) $1600 for the difference between the 05 Convertible lemon and the 06 GT (replacement vehicle) $7800 Usage charge for the milage of the 05 Convertible.
Adjusted price for the GT $24800. Don't forget I had already shelled out $9,400. (see above)
Add these $24,800 to the $7,800 usage and the $1,600 price difference between the 05 lemon and the 06 GT and you get $34,200. Nothing like being forced to pay OVER sticker price ($31,760) for a car because Ford couldn't build it right the first time. Every day I look at this car and know I took a SERIOUS screwing. That's why I do what I can to prevent Ford from making any type of auto sale. My neighbor is a landscaper and every couple of years he replaces his trucks. He was going to buy 5 new Ford trucks. Once I shared my experience with him he cancelled the order. I was able to prevent at least 4 Mustang sales, one Ford 500 sale and more recently one Focus sale. I'm doing the best I can to make sure I get back every dime plus some that Ford screwed me out of because of a leaky car. You can find my 06 Mustang GT very easily in the parking lot where I work (only about 5000 people work here). It has a 12" Calvin pi**ing on a Ford symbol on the back window. It works GREAT to let people know how Ford treats customers. I tried to get it bigger, but they don't make it bigger than 12". For all of you who just think I should just trade it in if I hate it that much .... Don't you think I lost enough money on the piece of crap ? Trade in won't even come close to what I owe and I'm not going to lose another $8,000 or so on trade in. Plus if I can kill one Ford sale ... it's worth keeping it. By the way, I just bought a Suzuki XL-7 two weeks ago. It has a smaller but just as effective pi** on FORD sticker on the back window too.

Dude, in all seriousness...take a deep breath and move on. Yes, sucks what you've been through, but at the end of the day ... it's just a car, it's just money. It aint healthy to let such trivial things shape your behavior going forward. Ditch the signs and the bitterness and find something positive to focus on.

LOL, ya right. You lose $12,000 and see if you have the same attitude. I can’t believe you would actually tell him to move on after he got royal fukked like that; you must work for Ford.
If this happens to my car I will sue the ever loving **** out of Ford and will not stop until I get back every single penny I have spent on the car. Now that this has been out for awhile and is a known documented problem I should have no worries about getting my money back.
I just hope my mind is playing tricks on me, but every now and then it seems I smell something weird inside the car, I am not sure if it is stale air or mold and my fogs have randomly shut off and come back on a few times. I have seen no other weirdness but, tomorrow I am going to check the kick panel and see what is up. Wish me luck!!!

No I don't work for Ford. And he didn't lose $12,000. He drove the car for at least a year, and although it wasn't it the condition he wanted, it still got him from point A to Point B. Also, he is gaining the increased resale value of the 06 versus the 05 (new car versus 1 year old car - at least a couple thousand or more), which offsets the difference in MSRP he paid. (They use the MSRP of the OLD car as well to figure the difference, so the incentive point is a non-issue). His car payments and down payment applied to the new car, so no loss there. The loan just transfers to the new car.
The $7,800 usage fee sucks I agree, but that's the price you pay for using BBB instead of lemon-law in court. He doesn't have to accept the BBB decision - he can still go lemon-law in court if he doesn't like having to pay the usage fee. Sounds like he has a good chance of winning based on the evidence he noted.
BTW - a $7,800 usage fee is pretty high. BBB uses a formula to figure the usage fee for replacement:
(mileage at first repair attempt / 100,000) x purchase price = usage fee.
Assuming a purchase price of 30160 (from his numbers), a $7800 usage fee equates to 25,860 miles before first repair attempt. That's 25,860 miles of trouble free driving (at least with regards to the leak), and that's why BBB charges the usage fee.
The formula for repurchase (buyback) is even worse, since they use the TOTAL mileage, not the mileage at time of repair. So the usage fee on a buyback is much higher usually than that on a replacement. Thus, his comment about not doing a replacement and forcing Ford to buyback or you'll be screwed is actually reversed - force them to replace it, not buyback.
My point was that he's letting this issue affect him emotionally in a way that is not positive or healthy. Going out of your way to diss a company by creating signs and spending mental energy on trying to hurt their business is, IMO, beyond a normal and healthy reaction to a material problem. I know of what I speak. I went through buyback with Ford on a Mercury Mountaineer and won. I too spent months fighting the dealer/ford. I too had to pay the usage fee. I too felt the daily, and in hindsight, unnecessary stress. About 7 months of my life was wrapped up in battling over the car at the expense of my happiness. It wears you down. The lesson I learned is to take your emotion out of it because it doesn't help and it only ruins your ability to have a good day and enjoy life. Take the necessary steps to resolve the issue, don't give up, but don't let it take over your emotions, whatever the outcome. Perspective.

I'm not going out of my way to "attack" Ford and their POS ... It's doing it all on it's own. I'm just making sure that everyone knows what kind of crap Ford pulls when they can't manufacture a vehicle, lies to customers and refuses to fix their POS.
By the way what car depreciates almost $9000 in one year ??? Another Ford by chance ??? So by your "intellectual opinion" it cost me $9000 to drive a leaking rot box for a year. Dude, I have a 13 year old Neon that my daughter drives. It never leaked. So what is that costing her a year to drive ??? $20000 ???

KBB.com says my 18 month old 06 GT with 18,000 miles is worth about $6000 less than I bought it for, so I don't know where you're getting the $9000 figure. The Mustang GT compares very favorably in depreciation and resale value to most other vehicles. The $7800 you paid is the usage fee for the miles you used before you had the problem. I'm curious, how close or far off was I in my mileage estimate. What was the mileage when you first reported the problem? Because if I was even close, then you put almost 2 years of mileage on the car before reporting the problem.
I never used the word attack, so please don't put it in quotes. And, yes, I know that you're "making sure that everyone knows what kind of crap Ford pulls when they can't manufacture a vehicle, lies to customers and refuses to fix their POS". My whole point was that your wasting valuable time and mental energy by dwelling on something, in the grand scheme of things, as insignificant as a car problem. It's done, it sucks, move on, or go to court. But hey, if you like wallowing in anger and negativity, go for it. Keep making those signs and scaring people with your unhealthy obsession with dissing a car company.
Oh, and thanks for calling me intellectual.
