After reading this, i really dont want BBK headers...

Yeah if I could go back I wouldn’t buy them again...I bought the most expensive ones thinking id be better off... Piff yeah right!! after I did my headers my car sounded alot better... not a big diff in Hp but it was nice.... then my efffin check engine light would never go off... took it to shops all the time and every time they fixed something and cost about 250 each time easy... its doing it again... efffin BBK fags...but yeah my car was kinda dying out when i would stop at a light but then after take off run fine... then it started kickin.... took it in and at first they said my effin header gaskets blew... Back to them BBk fags... to redo them $800 yeah right!! Did them myself, 4 hours and new aluminum reusable gaskets my beast was back to runnin great only $40 (my uncle is a manager @ a local AutoZone)!!! No exhaust leaks. its was saying something like inefficient flow to my Egr valve and not enough flow to my O2’s but with the fix to my Exhaust leak my O2’s should be getting some air… now im thinking about changing my Egr valve.. bc the light only come on after a few miles of driving… and some time goes off…the other day I hit 120 down the street against some Fag in a cobalt those little supercharged ones..... And the light went off... After a few miles runin low speeds/Rpms it was back on… so im thinking it is my Egr valve and it’s stickin??? I took it off and sucked on the holes and it opens and closes but ppl say it could get stuck... I don’t know???

If anyone knows or has an idea of what the eff is goin on let me know thx

man, it sounds like a lot of people are having trouble with BBKs, does anybody here know why? is it bad gaskets? or are the headers just crap? i was going to get some BBK equals when i do my exhaust, but now i'm going to go with something else i think, maybe JBA.

sea foam goes in 3 places... i have been having the same problem as u and seafoam was my first thing i tried cuz it need it newayz ans was like 5 bucks... 1/3 can in gas tank, 1/3 can in oil, 1/3 can in brake boost i beleive its called... its a big black cylindrical box on the driver side firwall its had a black hose goin to a tree mounted on the side of the engine bay, u remove the hose from the big black box.. not hte tree and let it slowly suck up the seafoam... make you u dont give it to much at one time or ull flood it and it will die... i almost did that... then get out on the road and go WOT a few times and look at all the pretty smoke behind u... and then hope it helps u out.. it doesnt help mine much... but like i said i need it newayz... from reading this post im thinking mayb i need a new timing change... cuz i change my timing and my problem started... and when i go to set it bak i notive that it will stay on 14 then jump up and hten bak down a few times... then resteady at about 14 again... so mayb the lt headers and prochamber, cal 76mm maf and inlet tube and bbk 75mm tb are all just for ****s and giggles after all and ill still ahve ot get a new timing chain... how hard are they to replace??

so is there anything wrong with the actual headers themselves, or is it just the gaskets and bolts?

yeah i've heard mixed things about them...i've heard that the headers are awesome and also that they suck, i've heard their TB's are junk, i've heard their H-pipes are good, their CAIs are good...i guess its just luck with whatever you get

In my experience the BBK worked well as long as a good quality gasket is used - I used racing 12 pts 3/8 bolts and a good amount of thread lock...
No problems there and the ceramic coating seems to be working in keeping the rust off...

OK guys... Next stop = seafoam.

From the responses it looks like I will use it in:
Gas tank
Cranckase
Intake?

Is it corrosive? Will I have to change the oil after I use it in the crankcase?

i havent used it yet (i'm going to soon), but in another topic that was talking about seafoam, it said you'll want to change your oil. you'll also probably want to service your plugs after as well.

I will admit, I am no mechanic, but my 02 Taurus had some issues with lagging.

At first, we replaced the spark plugs, since that was the code, but it turned out there was a rubber pipe that had started to give way over time and was closing on itself at high revs. My bro took it off and put it back on and the issue has since fixed itself along with the spark plugs.

No idea if this will help (since my car is newer)

HI, I admittedly haven't read all the responses on this thread, but notice that you have a 1995 GT with equal length BBK headers right? So do I, but notice I have a tweecer to tune the EEC.

If you installed headers and God only knows what else mods without doing some sort of engine tuning, that is probably your problem. The 94-95 EEC's are touchy and need tuning.

With the addition of the headers, you are probably going lean... and could seriously hurt your engine.

I would suggest first and formost either buying a wideband O2, or at least having a dyno pull done with a wideband to check your air fuel ratios.

I would say your high mileage engine might be partly at fault, except that you say this only occurred after installing the headers...

Thanks Adam - Actually the BBK were/are working great for the last 30K miles... no complaints there. I don't know if it is coincidental, but the problem started after the plug wires to 6 and 7 fried ON the BBK's...

I did the seafoam thing today - In the intake through the main vacuum hose (the big one downstream from the EGR valve, it works really well), the gas tank and the crankcase.
The intake reacted as everyone told me - lots of smoke, and that stuff really burns hot!. I repeated the process several times and I think that part is done.
The gas tank was almost full, so it will take a while for that part to complete and I am changing the oil tomorrow after putting about 80 miles of cleaning on the engine.
I re-installed the old O2 sensors for the cleaning, just in case...
I have to say that the top end is really good now, but the bucking is so bad that I should rename the car Bronco, rather than Mustang
Should I wait to change the plugs and O2 sensors until the gas tank has fresh fuel in it?

Final Chapter
----------------------
So, after yesterday's seafoam fest the engine was running like crap, and I was quite doubtful that it would be ok after all that. Today, I proceeded putting the new O2 sensors back, fresh oil and new Bosch Platinums
Drumroll...
The engine runs AWSOME!
Low, mid and high range are on target, no bucking and plenty of tire shredding power.

This is my take on the original issue:
When the plug wires fried on 6 & 7, the erratic discharges must have affected the spark plugs as well as cause major carbon build up at the valves, resulting in the loss of power and erratic performance. Also, the excessive use use of octane boosters might have compromised the O2 sensors, further aggravting the situation.

The recommendations I received here were on target and I am grateful for all the help working through this issue. Additionaly, please note that if you are going to use seafoam on a heavily gunked engine, like mine, I have noticed the following:
- Seafoam burns very hot when shot into the intake
- It is helpful to put it into the intake at idle and then flood the engine until it stalls, let sit for about five (5) minute before cranking it up and blowing the heck out of the carbon deposits
- Use expandable plugs and O2 sensors. Mine were useless after the cleaning process and new ones must be installed.
- I only drove the car about 100 miles after using seafoam in the crankcase and then changed the oil and filter

Again, THANK YOU ALL!!!
