hi, just curious about alot of talk on this forum. a lot of 05 or 06 mustang gt owners that are stock saying that they are smoking these 04 and 05 gto. but on the other hand 98-02 z28 camaro and trans am would give you guys a run for your money. i just asking from you mustabg owners that are running stock or with a little mods. which car can run with you that are stock the camaro or gto.
I have an 01 GT that is slow as sh*t so I cant really answer your question being I'm not an 05 or 06 GT owner. But I will say most 05, 06 GT's are runnin anywhere from 13.6-13.9 stock. Which an LS1 GTO runs about that, and the LS2 GTO's run low 13s and stock for stock should take an 05, 06 Mustang GT. I'd say a manual Z28 or SS Camaro with LS1 will beat a stock 05, 06 GT fairly easy aslong as the Camaro driver can drive, an auto in a Camaro isnt that much slower than the manual, so I'm gonna give an auto LS1 the advantage over a new Stang GT. Hope this answered your question. The only reason the LS1 GTO's are so slow compared to the LS1 Camaros is because of weight, the GTOs are tugboats.
I have to say i hear a lot of kill stories for the LS2 GTO's as well as the LS1 GTO's. I think a 05+ GT with CAI and a tune can take either. The LS1 Camaro's are definetly more of a challenge. GTO's just weigh too much.

GTO's are more even than the camaros with the 05/06 GT's with a good driver in the GT and decent driver in the GTO. I have personally seen a BONE STOCK M6 LS2 GTO run a 12.97. I have also seen them run a 14.2 with an A4...
Camaros are a bit quicker cause they weigh about the same if not a little less and have more power. There is nothing more to that one. Now with a CAI and tune they are much closer IF the Camaro is stock. They run similar track times cause the Mustang is A TON easier to launch.

Thats the funniest comment i've ever heard. An ls2 goat would destroy a gt with tune and cai; especially from a roll. 300 Hp + what 25 at most from mods; 325 @ 3500lb's vs. 400 @ 3700lb's. Yeah the GT is going to pull him.

Guys guys guys, reading this post made me register just so I can post a reply.
Here is my car history.
96 Camaro SS
97 Mustang GT 4.5
01 Corvette
06 GTO
Sorry to say, but the slowest car out of the bunch was the mustang, the fastest was the vette, then followed by the GTO, and then the SS. The SS was fast for its time, mine had 350hp while 96 vettes had 300hp. I could occasianally take down a 97 vette, but could definatly hang with them. The vette was a different story, no stock budget muscle car could hang with it period. After a couple of times I stopped racing camaros or mustangs (now porshes and vipers were a different story).
The GTO is a fast car, not as fast an C6 vette, but it's fast. I don't race all that much but when Z28 come up asking for races I give it to them every once in a while, so far haven't been beat yet.
The problem with the mustang was it's granny transmission, the LS1-LS2 and even the LT1, can run all the way up to 50-55mph in first, where the mustang has to shift around 35-40mph, and once the LSx hits third its all over, because that's where it pulls the most.
Two all of you stock mustang owners that claim to have beaten GTOs, Vettes, or Z28, i suggest that you roll down your window and ask the guy if he wants to race before you actually race.
I have had people with their ricers come up next to my vette, thinking that I am driving hard, while I was just easing around town, and would honk their horn 3 times and take off, it was funny because I would drive the same speed, the would get 2 or 3 cars ahead (would take them 10 seconds) and then they turn on their flashers! Dude I wasn't racing!
Stock for stock and auto vs auto my car is probably slightly ahead of an S197 GT (about even with a 5-speed) and definitely ahead of an auto LS1 GTO. An auto LS2 GTO would overpower me without too much trouble.
The auto S197 is quicker then the 5 speed S197. Funny how GM needs it largest engines in it's platforms to beat Fords smallest engines in their platforms. That's something to brag about for sure.

Knock it off.
Your giving me a woody and I can feel my head inflating.

Stock for stock, a well-driven 5-speed Mustang will be quicker than an auto. Less drivetrain loss.
And is using smaller motors something to brag bout? I guess, if you're a ricer.[&:]
