What year are those cars, and where did you get your codes? The lighter one looks like 2001&2002 Mineral Gray (TK) and the darker looks like 2003&4 Dark Shadow Grey (not sure of its two letter code at the moment). I'm not familiar with that code format from Ford [&:]
IMO Paint Chip Books don't do colors justice. You need to see the whole car. If you want Gun Metal Gray and like the metallic I think you would REALLY like the Dark Shadow Grey from 2003 & 2004. The best thing you could do would be to go to a local Mustang Show (getting kind of late in the season for that). You will probably find several fine examples of factory original cars in all the various shades of gray from over the years. Find what you like, ask them what the color is and if its original get the paint code off the door

If you like a particular shade but want it to be more "flakey" the paint folks can always add more flake than normal to the mix.
Over the past few months I have seen 5 or 6 different 60's body Mustangs and a couple Foxes painted in either Dk Shadow or Mineral Gray. Pretty popular colors, and they look damn cool on those older cars! And the one I saw this weekend ('68) was Mineral Gray with extra flake added as mentioned above. Looked awesome
