I used to use them alot when I lived in San Francisco. Lots of hills there. But Now that I live in So Cal, not so many hills here, I gave up on using it.

I used it all the time, no exception. For me it's like part of the driving sequence..you know...seat belt, foot on the break, etc.

I use it about once a week. Using it too much is a bit anal. However not using it at all is bad for the system itself. It needs to be used or else 10 years from now when you finally need to use it, it'll be weak or flat out break on the spot.

I use it everytime I get out of the car, IMO its optional on autos but mandatory on stick shift. THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT A PARKING BREAK! Take it out of gear and use the parking brake thats why its there.

WAY WRONG SECTION BTW!

Every time I park it goes in neutral and I pop that baby on!! That should be a
habit with anyone driving a stick.

I live in an brand new apartment complex, with what I thought was a flat even parking lot. I just got home one night, and I watched my car roll backwards and block the entry secutiry gate from my living room window. Thats probably one of the 5 times most I've ever not used my parking brake...

Please explain how it is anal to make sure your car doesn't roll away.
Manual I use every time I park.
Automatic never.

Almost always expecially when my car is on any incline. Don't want to put all the weight of my car on my trans.

So when you park your manual car...is it better to put it in neutral and pull the parking brake..or just leave it in gear and pull it?

It creates less strain on the engine by placing the trans in neutral, but you run the risk of something happening if the E-brake happens to well, break. Happened to my dad's chevelle years back. And yes, it went flying down a hill. I always place the car back in gear after I turn the car off just in case.

Well let's see, autos have a parking sprag, and manuals don't. I drive a stick so I use my parking brake. So yes I do use it, not all the time like some people, I find if you use ALL the time that you have to explain that funny smell to everybody and your 1/4 mile times get really really bad.

Everytime I park ANY of my cars, I use the parking brake. I live in the salt belt, if you dont use it, itll corrode up and wont release if it ever accidentally does get used. Seen it tons of times around here. Not to mention, on a lot of vehicles the parking brake is what keeps you rear brakes adjusted up properly.

I always use my parking brake, but then again, I park in a sloped driveway...I don't want to take the chance that the car will roll backwards into traffic.

I used it alot now that I have a manual.....but when I had an automatic I only used it when on hills.

I will like to add on when NOT to use it.

If you stop your car after heavy braking (like after a huge downhill or some laps at the track) DONT USE IT. A very hot disc can get bent under e-brake pressure.
