Welcome......... this topic has been covered many times. But, IMHO

1. the 281 was test run and red lined when assembled
2. you can "baby" it, or run the sh** out of it. Personally, when I hit 25 mi, I felt the break in was complete.
3. vary your RPM if you are driving on the interstate / or long periods at the same speed for the 1st 500 mi
4. if ya wanna burn out and WOT do it
5. check your oil after 200 mi - 400 - 600
6. I changed mine @ 1000

You gotta see what your car has! Get on it and go WOT. Don't be scared to hurt your car, what do you think people did when they test drove them. If it was that bad to go WOT on a new engine, do you really think the dealerships would let people test drive the s*** out of them?

Dude, I am so old school when it comes to this..... be careful for the first several hundred to a thousand miles or so.... stay away from sustained hard runs or very high rpm, but do not hesitate to load the engine with short bursts of heavy throttle... And vary your engine speed---like was stated earlier---don't run too long at a constant speed/rpm. Click off the cruise, let it coast back down, and then accelerate up to speed again, or run it at highway speed in 4th gear for a while, then switch back to top gear.... and torch red said a mouthful earlier---change your oil early----whatever breakin procedure you follow----as those engine components 'get to know each other' in a new engine, there is more friction---more friction = more heat and more wear.....
(and the reason car salesmen let people hot rod on demo rides---90% of car salespeople aren't car buffs, and couldn't care less how a prospective customer treats the car.....)

For the first 500 miles keep the tach moving. Let it get up to normal operating temperature and when it is, do some WOT starts. WOT starts will help the rings seat and build compression quicker.

If you search by my handle, you'll find a post where I detail all of this stuff.

I have broken in 9 vehicles like this and none of them ever used oil between 3000 mile changes!\

Enjoy the break-in period. A good excuse for fully warmed up WOTs!!!

Mike

Mush the pedal at the right in the footwell all the way down in one quick, forceful motion. Hold on. Break in is now completed.
