Default Auto or Manual?

Alright, I don't know if some of you remember ... But I made a post a few weeks ago about the Mustang GT/CS. About all I have left to decide on this car is whether I want a manual or an auto. Isn't there something wrong with the Manuals? Something electrical, can't remember what it is but I think it involves the clutch???

What do you reccomend for ALOT of city and highway driving, Auto or Manual? I will likely never take this car to the track, and will definately not mod the engine. The most I am going to do is 5% tint.

persoanlly I love my manual. I figure if I'm gona spend $28,000 on a sports car then I'm going for the manual but I like to race around too and I live in a small town so I don't worry much about city driving. But in your case I would recomend the auto if u don't want to be shifting all the time. If u want fun then go for the manual and if u want practicality then go for the auto...but just remember there isn't much that is practical about the mustang...its basically just a big badass toy.

+1
Last week I saw a guy "briefly" checking out my car, it was a walk around, and a glance in the driver's window. As I walked up, he said "nice MUSTANG, I was checkin' to see, if it was a real MUSTANG, and it is,........... it's a stick"
Those are his words, not mine.
Do what you want, as, you have to drive it. If, you have never driven a stick, traffic can be a pain, but, after about 2 weeks, shifting and the clutch becomes 2nd nature.
I really don't like the term automatic / manual ,........... it should be automatic / fanatic
Good luck in your choice.

Haven't heard of any problems with the clutch (on my 2nd S197 stick GT). My thing is, you've waited this long to get a GT(at least I did), I'd be damned if I'd settle for an automatic....just takes the job of controlling the car out of the equation. If you want an automatic, I think at this stage you'd realize it. Go with what you're familiar with and get it. I grew up when V-8 performance cars weren't offered with a stick trans(80s) and when Ford re-introduced the GT in '82(with manual only) it just made me appreciate
V-8 American performance cars that much more. I'd never buy an automatic GT......but to each their own....good luck!

I too was in your situation when looking for my stang. 95% of my driving is city driving but really enjoy driving manual. However, after test driving both I went with the auto.....when I picked it up I got stuck in traffic for about 30 min so I figured that was a good sign. After the CAI w/93 Evolution tune and 3.73 gears it is a blast to drive.

def get the stick...well at least i did and it is my first stick and I love it. People always ask if its stick or auto and it feels good saying stick. I am not saying stick is faster by any means but its a blast to drive, but traffic sucks.

I believe I read it on here before and it’s a real good way of describing the difference which is:

If you want the car to drive you go with the automatic.
If you want to drive the car then go with the manual.

Personally I would never own a Mustang without it being manual. I have read many times, regardless of what vehicle, that manuals are not good for city and/or lots of traffic because of shifting.

Personally I never understood that argument as I have own many autos and manuals and shifting a manual in city and/or lots of traffic was never a problem.

The only reason I would not want a manual is if I had some type of medical condition with my left leg that made it difficult to use a clutch, otherwise when it comes to something like the Mustang manual is the only way to go…

Stick is a bit faster with a good driver because you lose less horsepower to the rear wheels when compared to an automatic transmission...

Yea, I hate having a V6 Auto ...

I really HATE the look of the Auto shifters in the S197's ... I'm leaning towards the Manual, but I haven't driven one in 2 years ... and that was my 1988 ranger, which I sold once I was handed ownership. I'd have to pretty much re-learn how to drive it, but it would likely be worth it ... I'm so torn, lol
