I saw a thread on here I believe where someone installed the Pioneer AVH-P6800DVD in there 05 Mustang but he mentioned he had to toggle switch the parking brake wire. My question is isn't there a more suitable way to do this? I don't want any extra wires or switches in the car that aren't necessary. I'm sure a professional shop wouldn't hook up a toggle to work the dvd player. Has anyone else installed this unit in their car? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe you are trying to get the unit to allow you to see DVDs from the front seat. Normally, you would have to have the parking brake engaged to watch a DVD. I had my AVH-68000 installed by a pro. As a favor, he installed a pushbutton switch under the dash, drivers side for me so I could bypass the parking brake signal. He first tried to take the parking brake signal to ground (as I understand it) but everytime you turn off the car, it would reset, so the switch was required. I just went and bought a black on/off switch I liked to go with my black interior and he installed it. So the process is: when the unit powers up and I choose to watch a DVD it comes up with the message illegal to watch a DVD from the front seat, I push my little secret button and it changes screens and gives me a message with an OK button. I touch that and I can view the DVD. Good luck.

A professional shop wouldn't install a switch. And you wouldn't be able to watch video unless your car was parked and the parking brake was engaged. But if you want to watch videos while driving, a switch or button is required. Also, it's pretty easy to hide it if you dont want anyone to see it.

I'm kinda going nuts on this . I hooked the dvd wire to the e brake like instructed and the "attention" screen will not go away but I hear the movie playing. Secondly, I'm only getting 4 out of the 6 speakers to work. The 2 lower ones in the doors are not working!!! I had this same problem I believe in my 93 mustang but I can't remember at this moment what I did to reslove the problem. My head hurts. I thought taking the car apart would be thr problem not the Pioneer stereo!!!?!

hook up the remote turn on from the deck to the hrns(blue to blue) and the bottom speakers should work. If you hooked it up to the parking brake the way you are supposed to it will of course have to be on to see it, and may need to do some kind of sequence to activate the video.

I didn't hook the remote wire to anything so yea maybe that will work, thanks. I tried a bunch of different things as far as the dvd video but the "attention" window would not go away. I don't have any reputible places I know of around here to do the install...maybe I'll return the unit who want to stop to watch a video anyhow??? Plus I don't want a damn toggle switch in the car to "trick" the unit. Oh well.

look over the install instructions and see if it needs a sequence to be put on the brake to turn on. Also check the back of the manual for troubleshooting tips to see if there are any other wires that needs to be hooked up.

Who are you to pass judgement as to whether I used a professional shop or not. In fact I did use a professional installer "as I originally posted". I used a pro because I did not want the hassle of trying to figure out the wiring as in this post. It was a job well done. The installer installed a switch as I requested. While I did not purchase this unit for DVD viewing, I wanted to be able to use all of the features. If I wanted to watch a DVD sitting still with the parking brake on, I would go in the house and see it on a big screen. Again I am glad my professional gave me an option.

I just think for that kind of money you should be able to use all the features the unit comes with. It should give you the options...not be set up from the factory as far as the dvd player part goes. I like things to be factory looking and a toggle switch even hidden is not what I want. I'm just one person though.

Well you are not going to be able to watch a DVD without the switch. I was told that it is this way by law. Supposedly some one in California killed themself while watching from the front seat, so a law was passed to restrict the rest of us. My installer did it discreetly. It may be against some law, but so is tinting your windows greater than a certain percentage and having a license plate on the front. I don't have a plate on the front cause I think it hurts the look of my car. I tinted to the percentage by law, and it is not dark enough. I will retint.
The switch is what I wanted to let me use that feature. If you find a way around using the switch I be interested in how you did it. Good luck!

Ya could not be more wrong. It is illegal to be able to view moving video from the drivers seat. Putting a switch in to bypass the parking brake function does not make it legal, it makes it illegal. You can be pulled over and cited for this.

There was an accident where a man in alaska drifted over the center line and had a head on accident with an older couple, killing them both. They were really close to pressing murder charges if they could have proven that he was watching his DVD player. Don't be the dude that is the fist to have these charges pressed on them just for having the "option" of watching movies while driving, when really it is just to impress our friends and the ladies.

I could tell you how to bypass it, I just am not going to so that I can cover my ass........... its always about the CYA.........

OK, open your eyes wideand read what I said. I am not wrong. I agree it is illegal, but you are "assuming" you know what I want it for. You do know what assuming makes you? I have many music dvd's of bands in concert that I want to use while on trips. Anyone knows the drive had better watch the roadand not some little screen.
Perhaps my kids can watch a movie while on a trip. Whatever. I paid for the unit and I will use all of the options.
I thought these forums are about helping fellow stang owners with issues are they are dealing with about their cars. I was responding with comments about something I did to my car only a week ago. If you want to belittle somebody for trying to help - go somewhere else. It won't fly here.

By the way, I am old enough not to care about impressing anyone, let alone friends or ladies. I paid big bucks for the upgrade and install and I will use all of the features. Sounds like you are in the audio business and don't want to divulge a secret, that's cool with me.

Wooo didn't mean to start a bashing fest guys I just wanted a little help. No more worries though, I took the radio back tonight and I will put the money towards some other parts I wanted for the car. The Shaker works just fine for me for now. I do appreciate the help and advice from those that posted. Just to make one thing clear, I have kids and thought it would be nice for them to throw in a Disney movie when we were out running around. The other thing is I just appreciate Pioneer products, I've always used there radio and have the best luck with them. Thanks Again for your advice.

No problem here, just don't like someone imposing their rules on others. Sorry it did not work out for you. You really, really would have enjoyed all of the features of this pioneer head unit. They went all out on this one. I agree with you about the Shaker, not bad, but it sounded a little muddy to me. But other posts in these forums say you can tweak the system to your liking. For me, I wanted to be able to get to my songs better and faster and with an Ipod controller attached, my whole library is accessible. The touch screens and different backgrounds are nice. Dvd feature was just a side benefit.
Know what you mean about other mods, go for it and make your stang unique to you. Roll on!

Calm down mang, not trying to be-little you and sorry if it came out that way. I didn't make the rule, it isn't mine and I am not enforcing it, but it is the law. I worked installing full time for almost 8 yrs before getting out of school and getting a new career, I do it part time for a local shop for the last 6 yrs. As a professional I cannot take the liability for hookin up somebodys video function so they can watch it while they drive, or giving info of how to online even. What if you or one of our friend on here is that 1rst guy to happen to have a wreck while watchin a video? Of course there is a written record of eveything I am typing now or have typed, whats gonna happen to me? It is illegal for me to wire somebody's stuff like that and it is just as illegal to give them step by step instructions on how to bypass it. You made it sound as if it was ok with a switch and I was quick to correct you because it is obvious that while you know your pioneer and all of its functions, you may not be getting the big picture of what you told him...............

In the end I will not loose any sleep over it, although I do not understand why you need to snap on everyone here. I was the 2nd person on just this post. Relax mang................

Oakman,
I never said that your pioneer was not installed by a professional. I was replying to luvs2gofast. But I would have to say that the professional who installed your unit was acting "unprofessionally" when he did the install because the switch he used is indeed illegal.
I installed professionally to get me through college. At my shop the professional thing to do is to abide by the law.

Well you know, good and reasonable Mustang owners can disagree. My reasons are well stated. I don't think my installer would appreciate you calling him unprofessional (he does this for a living day in and day out and not some part time to get me thru college thing). I find all of this funny cuz there are other posts on this forum from some installer telling some guy step by step how to install the "SECRET SWITCH". Posts on these forums tell other owners to install tinting that is "illegal". Posts that tell others to how to install aftermarket go fast gear that Ford deems to be "illegal". Some posts tell owners how to install audio gear that if the volume is turned up would violate most noise ordinaces in alot of neighborhoods - is that audio gear "illegal"? Many, many owners do not install the front license plate cuz somebody, somewhere says that is "illegal". I could go on but my fellow Stang owner, you get the point.
Bottom line is that you & I make the payments on our own cars and we will decide what goes in it or not. Right? Hey, but thanks for the lively discussion.
