Well put actually. If you install something and you know its illegal then the only one paying the price is the owner. Trust me, I live in New Jersey and everything is against the law here when it comes to cars!!! People on here add tips to help out others thats all.
I think we are confusing things here. Compairing the potential damage that a switch wired to a screen is not the same as illeagal window tint, gears, or a loud radio as far as I am concerned. Giving someone step by step instructions on how to bypass this on here would have to be about the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. I am not going to leave a trail of instructions with my name on it for everyone to read and I am amazed people come on here to ask. I am not going to give these instruction just like I am not gonna tell ya how to cook crack(even if I knew how).
"Bottom line is that you & I make the payments on our own cars and we will decide what goes in it or not. Right? Hey, but thanks for the lively discussion. "
I have the video function on my own DVD player bypassed because I know that I am not going to personally use it myself while driving, and have not done so after over a year. I/we do not know who we are dealing with when people come on here and ask. We could be giving instructions on how to do this to someone that is responsible as myself that undrestands the risks or it could be JR that just got his license and his dads credit card.
I had a kenwood dvd player in my old V6, and my installer just put it in so I could watch dvd's any time. I didn't need a switch at all. I think that he mentioned he just grounded the wire for the park brake. Not too sure though, I sold the car a while back.

Man you just can't let it go can you? I am trying to be gracious to you and let you save a little face but you just keep buzzing around like a little gnat, don't you? Nobody cares if you want to keep the secret of "how to hook up some switch" to yourself. Some gestapo like group is not scouring these forums to find you and come after you for telling some one how to bypass something, and then drag you away in the middle of the night and take your mustang away. "We" aren't confusing anything. "You" are real confused. Fact is, too dark a tint is dangerous, just ask any police officer, when you can't see the other driver's eyes and read their intentions or when an officer makes a traffic stop and does not know what waits for him behind the dark glass. Loud audio gear wrecks the hearing of mainly younger people - read the statistics. Come on man, grow up and let it go! Keep your secret to yourself, their are plenty of installers who will take care of their customers.

Interesting, what's up with New Jersey laws? Why are they so prohibitive of what you do to a car? Some examples please. Later.

i think you are just trying to find someone to argue with. lol... I have given members of this forum step by step instructions on how to install a switch. I never argued that it was a secret anyhow. Just in a professional setting, it is unwise to do so. If the person gets in a wreck while watching video, the install shop can be held liable. Not very smart. But you can't be liable for telling someone how to do it. And does it really matter if i installed to get through college? Lol...

Here are some don't do in New Jersey: No wiper washer lights on the hood No tinting driver or passenger side windows--only back two if car is a 4 door & of course the rear window No neon lights No add on front lights that are hidden by a grille No light covers No neon or lighted license plate holders Must have a front license plate Must have cats on the exhaust but NO glass packs!!
Theres more I just can't think right now...most is simply ridiculous!!!

Not trying to argue at all, just letting ttocs know to give it a rest. In fact, you are making my point, you have helped someone with step by step instructions on how to hook something up that they are asking advice for. Man I agree that if you are in the business, don't do it in a way that would jeopardize yourself. Hey, I am an Electrical Engineer and I am very hesitate to give out home electrical wiring instructions. Some guy would do it wrong and not according to the electrical code and blame me for it. I have to know to whom I am giving the advice to or actually help him to do the job, just provide lunch. In professional settings, I agree, you gotta be careful. But my "professional installer" did not write anything on the ticket for my switch install (just a shop material charge) and we mutually agreed that he was doing me a favor. I had already spent alot of money with him, the head unit, speaker changes and dynamat. But as a professional he probably sized me up and figured I was a responsible adult and would use the dvd responsibly and not take risks. Would he have done it for another person that as ttocs put it "just got his license and his dad's credit card", knowing this installer, probably not. Depends on who it is - you know!

who needs to give it a rest? I didn't feel a need to "save face" but I do feel a need to buzz around a little more.
Again compairing that your installer did it for you as a favor and posting general instructions on the net for anyone to read are different. I am not going to sit here typing as though I have never done it before after 10+yrs of installing professionally. If I think the person is responsible enough to use the equipment properly as I do I have done it. I think it is just irresponsible to give this info out to every little kid that has his learners permit, his daddy's stang and an internet connection. Would you want your kids driving your stang while trying to adj the video settings on the dvd player?
Don't scold me for giving responsible advise and compair me to an annoying bug. If you think you have a little more info then I do in the area of audio/video/security installation then hey, I bow down and will let you run with the ball to give responsible advise. I am willing to bet that since you had to sweet talk your installer to fix your video function that you are more like the annoying engineer that knows everything just like the ones I work with at my fulltime job(install is a side now since getting my degree in electronics). If you have good info to give here resposibly join the club. If you want to argue and they be-little the people that are on here giving good free info then like I said you can take over. After 10 yrs doing this I certainly do not need to give out what I have learned for free and I will not do it and be insulted at the same time.............
Whoa, got your blood up on that one eh? Glad to hear that you got a degree in electronics, congrats. Glad to hear that you are still installing audio gear. Sorry to hear you have a problem with engineers. No I am not an annoying engineer (can't speak for the ones you work with). I am a detail guy, that's what makes me good at my job. Also dealing with contractors day in and day out. I am old enough to know that I have learned there are some things I will do myself and some I won't. That is why I use professionals to get certain things done for me that I don't want to try myself. I used these forums to get educated about the gear I was planning to upgrade to. I learned of a bypass switch to be able to use all of the functions of my new unit. Did not have to sweet talk anyone, just mentioned it and my installer did it. I try to learn as much as possible so that I know enough not to be ripped off. Thank goodness for these forums cause I found out that you have to talk to several installers to find one that knows what they are doing, wouldn't you agree ttocs? Fortunately I had the money to invest in good gear and pro to install it. Please look at other posts, I am agreeing with you that it depends on who you are giving the information out too and by all means don't put yourself at risk. Hey man, glad to see all of the advice you give others, sincerely. As a pro installer, you da man. It you want to wire up some really high voltage stuff - let's do it together! OK?

I just got my avh-p6800 dvd and I am trying to figure a way around the parking brake sensor. I live in Norway and although lots of things are illegal, it's quite legal to play a dvd while driving. Might not be a good idea, but still..
I havn't tried to install the player yet, so I just want to share my thoughts about "disabling" the park brake sensor with you guys.
As far as I've figured, the park brake sensor turns off the disabling of playing dvds when the park brake is on, in other words when the park brake power circuit is closed. This means that when there is power on the park brake sensor cable, it should enable playing of dvds. Would it then be possible to connect this cable to the acc-cable instead? This would ensure power to the park brake sensor cable whenever the player is turned on - "fooling" the player to think to park brake is on.. What do you think about this?
