Default Need tips on wiring with Pioneer AVH-P6800DVD

I saw a thread on here I believe where someone installed the Pioneer AVH-P6800DVD in there 05 Mustang but he mentioned he had to toggle switch the parking brake wire. My question is isn't there a more suitable way to do this? I don't want any extra wires or switches in the car that aren't necessary. I'm sure a professional shop wouldn't hook up a toggle to work the dvd player. Has anyone else installed this unit in their car? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe you are trying to get the unit to allow you to see DVDs from the front seat. Normally, you would have to have the parking brake engaged to watch a DVD. I had my AVH-68000 installed by a pro. As a favor, he installed a pushbutton switch under the dash, drivers side for me so I could bypass the parking brake signal. He first tried to take the parking brake signal to ground (as I understand it) but everytime you turn off the car, it would reset, so the switch was required. I just went and bought a black on/off switch I liked to go with my black interior and he installed it. So the process is: when the unit powers up and I choose to watch a DVD it comes up with the message illegal to watch a DVD from the front seat, I push my little secret button and it changes screens and gives me a message with an OK button. I touch that and I can view the DVD. Good luck.

A professional shop wouldn't install a switch. And you wouldn't be able to watch video unless your car was parked and the parking brake was engaged. But if you want to watch videos while driving, a switch or button is required. Also, it's pretty easy to hide it if you dont want anyone to see it.

I'm kinda going nuts on this [:@]. I hooked the dvd wire to the e brake like instructed and the "attention" screen will not go away but I hear the movie playing. Secondly, I'm only getting 4 out of the 6 speakers to work. The 2 lower ones in the doors are not working!!! I had this same problem I believe in my 93 mustang but I can't remember at this moment what I did to reslove the problem. My head hurts. I thought taking the car apart would be thr problem not the Pioneer stereo!!!?!

hook up the remote turn on from the deck to the hrns(blue to blue) and the bottom speakers should work. If you hooked it up to the parking brake the way you are supposed to it will of course have to be on to see it, and may need to do some kind of sequence to activate the video.

I didn't hook the remote wire to anything so yea maybe that will work, thanks. I tried a bunch of different things as far as the dvd video but the "attention" window would not go away. I don't have any reputible places I know of around here to do the install...maybe I'll return the unit who want to stop to watch a video anyhow??? Plus I don't want a damn toggle switch in the car to "trick" the unit. Oh well.

look over the install instructions and see if it needs a sequence to be put on the brake to turn on. Also check the back of the manual for troubleshooting tips to see if there are any other wires that needs to be hooked up.

Who are you to pass judgement as to whether I used a professional shop or not. In fact I did use a professional installer "as I originally posted". I used a pro because I did not want the hassle of trying to figure out the wiring as in this post. It was a job well done. The installer installed a switch as I requested. While I did not purchase this unit for DVD viewing, I wanted to be able to use all of the features. If I wanted to watch a DVD sitting still with the parking brake on, I would go in the house and see it on a big screen. Again I am glad my professional gave me an option.

I just think for that kind of money you should be able to use all the features the unit comes with. It should give you the options...not be set up from the factory as far as the dvd player part goes. I like things to be factory looking and a toggle switch even hidden is not what I want. I'm just one person though.

Well you are not going to be able to watch a DVD without the switch. I was told that it is this way by law. Supposedly some one in California killed themself while watching from the front seat, so a law was passed to restrict the rest of us. My installer did it discreetly. It may be against some law, but so is tinting your windows greater than a certain percentage and having a license plate on the front. I don't have a plate on the front cause I think it hurts the look of my car. I tinted to the percentage by law, and it is not dark enough. I will retint.
The switch is what I wanted to let me use that feature. If you find a way around using the switch I be interested in how you did it. Good luck!
