I'm going to be buying a 1994 3.8 convertible this afternoon. She's in great condition and only 64,000 miles on it! So I'm very excited, always wanted a Mustang.
My question is the paint. The car is painted Iris Metallic. Not a very popular color for the car, think they only sold 1,300 then switched to a blue from what I can gather on the net. My boyfriend wants to paint it right away. I'm not sure if that's the right thing to do or not, I mean the color isn't my fave but I could probably learn to love it. I seem to recall all my "car" dudes saying that it's not wise to repaint over the original color, but I forget why ..something to do with matching the inner door frame or something? ugh
If we do paint it is there a color I should consider over another? It has a black top and grey interior.
I am sure there are other reasons, but to paint a car in a different color requires, if you do it right, you to paint the door, trunk and hood jambs and the underside of the hood, to match the paint. Depending on the color you may have to strip the original paint. These add to the expense of the paint job. If the paint is in good shape just take care of it, if you want it paint it that’s cool too, just enjoy the car and welcome to the forum. Tim
