hey, i am new to the forum. although i do not own a mustang. i do respect the mustang. i have a question for you guys. there is a guy driving around in a 05 mustang with cobra on the back bumper. talking trash on own how he will smoke my 95 z28. now i am not asking you guys to take sides here but, i was curious about the 05 cobra mustang. i thought ford said that they werent makining any cobra for 05 and 06 mustang. is this guy just saying he have a 05 cobra. everying body in neighborhood is scare to race him. i not worried about him because i know what my car is capable of doing. did ford really make an 05 cobra mustang.
There is no cobra for 2005 or 2006, this kid is just another poser wannabe trying to impress people with a car he doesnt really have. Sorry to say though, no matter how much of an asshole he is, if its a GT that he has, youll lose. Im not sure what kind of cars the people in your neighborhood have that theyre scared to race him.. but he definately doesnt have a cobra, so if its a GT its pretty fast but not unbeatable.
im gonna say if the kid put a cobra badge on a car, 8 times outta 10 its on a v6. so if ur car has over 210 hp and can beat a 15.0 in the quarter (which it can ) go rip him a new asshole. aside from that, he may have done something unthinkable and riced out a GT.... but i really doubt he has done anything else to the car if hes a ricer.... just a hunch. so if your car can beat a 13.5 (if hes a GREAT driver) then you will be fine. you should ask to see under the hood. if he doesnt let you, assume v6.....
other ways to tell, if it has no badge on the front quarter panels it could be a v6 or (less likely) a debadged GT. also, GTs come with the two big fog lights in the grill. v6 have no fog lights or they have 2 small ones. but the GT fog lights are just as big as the headlights. this is a biggie. if its got big headlights i would lean toward a debadged GT. you can also check to make sure its got dual exhaust, but there are alot of v6s with duals anyway, but a single exhaust means v6 ftw... or ftl?
anyway, if hes got no side badges and no/ small foglights, i would say v6. where are u located btw? maybe u can find someone on this board nearby to make sure to show his pathetic poser ass how a mustang should be
If you are sure its a 2005 then its not a GT500. But like bl1nkage said - if he has a GT then he is still going to eat your lunch. If you are mistaken (or misinformed) and its truly a GT500 - go ahead and race him anyways.... but prepare to watch tail lights fade in the distance.
I would agree with SpecterGT260 also. If he doesnt show you whats under his hood...its truly a 2005....and it actually says COBRA on his bumper.... its probably a V6.
But which ever way it is...... just go ask him to race you. You know, just for sh!ts and giggles.
Oh, you could also go and take a few pictures of this "Cobra" and post it on this site....along with a current City and someone will help debunk the situation for ya.
But like I said....... go race him for the hell of it.
theres a couple kids here at the U of I with v6 mustangs and GT parts on em. if i can run into them when they are around their cars i wanna play dumb and be like "man, v8? is that thing fast?.... well, could it beat a convertible, since they are heavier? "

There is a guy like that at my work.... has an 04 mustang with GT on the back and a cobra tag on the front fender..... hes just a noob... race him, and hope he's is the idiot we all think he is....

First of all, thanks for being a true sporting gentleman and coming to this forum to ask a very legitimate question. IMO this individual sounds like some sort of bully....we all know bullies pick on the weak and won't stand up to a true challenge. BTW fellow listers z28man didn't list what his car has....for all we know he might have a supercharged LT-1 that'll work a GT500! Honestly though if this individual is claiming he has an '05 Cobra, then he's FOS and obviously doesn't know what he's talking about. I know it's not cool to bash fellow 'Stang owners, but some guys don't leave you a choice. Race 'em and see what happens.......good luck.
There was one 05 Cobra Mustang built by PSP in NY. SVT liked the car so much they even gave it a SVT number 001. Sal has since sold the car. You can see the car at this link:
hey thanks for the responds. well my 95 z28 is pretty much stock all i have is intake kit, shift kit, and flowmasters. next year i will probaly convert to LT4 kit or 383 stroker. one of my neighbor has a svt ford contour. my friend is basically over my house almost every other day has a 95 mitstibishi 3000Gt twin turbo. my neighbor across the street has a 96 mustang gt. an of course my neigbor with 05 stang (cobra). well i talked to my neighbor with the 05 stang. about racing us. he said no. were are wasting his time. come with a challege. i do agree with u guys. he is hiding something. he wont let my friend with 96 mustang gt look at his engine. i live loganville Ga. we all have pretty much race each other. except for the svt ford contour. i do have a question to ask. a stock 05 mustang gt is rated at 300hp vs stock 95 z28 is rated at 275hp. that only 25 more than me how far will this guy leave me or any stock 05 mustang gt will leave me. oh yeah how much hp do a svt ford contour is that like the ford taurus SHO.
the new GTs were a little underrated. 315ish is probably more accurate. aside from that, GOD himself designed the rear suspension. I know of these cars pull 1.6s on street tires with a little bit of work (trailing arm and panhard maybe? ask musicCityGT) so if he isnt an idiot (but fear not, sounds like he is....) he will pull at least a car on u out of the hole. However, my money is on v6.
heres another way to think about it. for has only made a few 4.6L motors. theres the sn95 225 hp. the PI 260 hp, the 4v cobra 320 hp, the terminator forged internal 390 SC, and the 3v 300 hp (rated). I would call his punk ass out. if u dont hear a SC, its either a pushrod 4.0 or a 3v 4.6.... well, its one of those anyways.... because he didnt put a terminator motor in there for sure.
if it is a GT and he did something unthinkable and riced it out, ur still toast, but the VR4 should be able to hang with him if not take him as long as the guy can launch it (dont be afraid to launch high and slip the clutch (this is for the mitsu guy)).
did u read my earlier post on identifying the cars? check the headlights out and see if u can figure anything out there.
