Default New V6 - first mod?

Hey everyone! So, I just bought my first Mustang about 3 weeks ago. I got a V6 4.0 and I am lovin it. Of course, now I am getting bit by the "mod" bug. So, what's the first thing I should do? I have heard about dropping in a K&N air filter. That is an easy 60 bucks. But, what about exhaust? I saw Flowmaster makes a nice chrome rounded muffler.... and it sounds awesome. So, hit me up! What should I do first?

Default RE: New V6 - first mod?

I would do CAI/Tuner, following that I would go a bolt on muffler, the stock one is very restrictive. Heres a list of some of the top tuners...

CAI/Tuner Combo

• Doug/Bamachips: XCAL2 and your choice of TI or C&L CAI. (When I switched to his tune for my old TI, it shaved off 3/10ths on my time, his daily driver is an auto as well, though I think he has several test mules/test customer cars at his disposal)
• Evolution: XCAL2 and C&L (lot of guys use them, they have a good rep, actually met them at FFW, good bunch of guys)
• AZDynoChip: XCAL2 and ? (don't know if they do the internet thing, they will tune any CAI and produce some of the highest dyno numbers)
• Lidio/Alternative Auto: XCAL2 and CAI (I did some research and several shops referred me to him for Automatics, his personal daily driver is an auto)
• Brenspeed: XCAL2 and C&L (another highly reputable shop)
• Justin/VMP Tuning: XCAL2 and ? (Considered one of the top dogs for the V6 stang community, he’s also tested more CAI’s on the same dyno session than anyone I’ve seen so far, read about it here: http://www.v6power.net/vb/showthread.php?t=25551 )

Stick with any of the above and you will be fine.

Get the K&N filter and get hold of a GT muffler from the right side of a GT and add it for a nice sound and better performance (relatively cheap).

I went with Brenspeed for their C&L intake & SCT XcalII tuner combo. Intake without a tuner won't get rid of throttle lag, neither will muffler. The tuner, even if by itself, would be the most significant investment for your Mustang.

First performance wise I would go with the C&L cold air intake and the tuner combo. Then spend 50 bucks and get a chrome exhaust tip and you are good untill you get a new exhaust later on.

yes the c&l is one of the bets tunable inductions but i would shy away from spending any money on a muffler that frankly needs to come off asap and be melted down for scrap
that extra 50 bucks could help towards you gettin an MRT which is my personal reccomandation
