Default '66 6 cyl carb advice

My son and I recently bought a '66 Mustang with a 6 cyl. Based on casting numbers, we think the block is a '66 Falcon 200, while the head is a '69 Falcon 250 (C9DE-M, if I remember right). The previous owner had this engine combination rebuilt before we got it, but he didn't get around to the carb before selling the car to us. It's missing too many parts to try and rebuild it, so we're looking for advice as to what carb should we try to find for this engine combination. We're just looking for an economical carb so it will start and drive easier. It idles great, but the problems we are experiencing with the existing carb are 1. It's missing half the choke parts and 2. Zero acceleration. Thanks!

That doesn't work on the 200. The intake manifold is cast as part of the head.
If you want stock, www.ponycarbs.com is about the best you'll find in a rebuild.
This really wasn't a very good carburetor/intake setup, but it did allow for decent fuel economy in 1966 terms.
It has an off idle stumble and is very underpowered (about 80-90HP to the rear wheels on a well tuned engine). Most of the hesitation can be taken away by advancing the timing and running mid grade or better gas. choke adjustment is critical.
It is reliable, as in daily starting and stopping, and once adjusted doesn't require much in the way of maintenance.
If you plan to keep the 6 cylinder, and don't mind doing some modifications go here www.fordsix.com and look through some of the threads on 2 barrel carburetor installs.
I'm still running the 1 barrel carb, but have done work to the carb and aircleaner to improve drivability.

Good luck,

I would suggest that you visit either your NAPA parts store or your Ford dealer and buy what they sell for a 1966 200. The stock carb was a very nice unit.

The Autolite 1100 carb is what you need. Here is some info to wet your whistle.

if u want fuel economy i would opt to get an adapter form www.cliffordperformance.net and put a holley 2brl 350cfm carb on it that will help out the fuel economy and itll also help out in the power division too

Two answers
No, and... um... No.

Go spend some time at the Ford Six forum I linked above.

BTW: there is nothing "nice" about the stock Autolite 1100 carb. It was a piece of doo-doo when it came out, and it still is today. It belongs on a farm tractor not a car. Of course so does the head. Another one of Ford's "better ideas"...yeah right [:@]
Anyways the car will run in stock trim, About like a 2000cc Pinto. Well maybe not quite that nice.

Mustang boy, I take it you've done this modification? what did you do for throttle linkage, and an air cleaner to fit under the stock hood?
What kind of difference did it make in your fuel mileage? What kind of mileage did you get before? And what kind of mileage are you getting now?

youre wasting your time with that stock carb. what you need is to weld an adapter on the intake/head so you can use 2 dominators. youll thank me later.
