Default Racing an Eagle Talon

So once I got my Saleen, everyone at school has wanted to race me now. I guess the fastest car in the school is this Eagle Talon that I know nothing about except that stock it comes turbo'd. My base Saleen is all 100% stock besides the K&N CAI. I'm trying to find out more info on the Talon but haven't yet. Would I be able to beat a mostly stock Talon (if it is)? Supposedly he wants to race for $500, which is nice, but I'm not sure that he'd throw down $500 if he wasn't pretty sure he could win....

What are your thoughts?

Make sure you know what is done to the Talon. They will run low 12's pretty easy with a few mods. Your car will run mid 13's so you will get killed. It is also all wheel drive and will start off like a beast. I have no idea about a stock version as every Talon I have seen has been upgraded. The $500 tells me he has upgrades.

A piece of advice, you just got your Saleen and I assume you are younger(I am old and have done my questionable things) as you are still in school. Don't race this guy on the street and lose your hot new ride. Its not worth it. Make sure its at the track. If he is running under 11.5 he will need a cage to run it on the track and this will give you the tip off too. Your car is nicer than his in my opinion!!!

I AGREE.DON'T RACE YOUR CAR IN THE STREET,YOU ARE ASKING FOR TROUBLE.YOU HAVE A COLLECTOR CAR AND IT WOULD BE A SIN IF THE COPS TAKE IT.BUT STOCK TO STOCK YOU SHOULD TAKE IT.JUST DO IT AT THE TRACK ON A DRAG RADIAL.GOOD LUCK

Definately nicer. We have a spot that we race it, on private property, but it's not an official track... I'll take a look at it and see what he has under the hood and hopefully get some pics and show you guys. An extra $500 would put me that much closer to a Saleen supercharger

It will be hard for you to see turbo upgrades. Post this in the Street/Strip section of this forum and you may get more help with what to look for from someone who has owned one.

I am in agreement with others that have chimed in so far [sm=badidea.gif] IMO, dumb decisions are made when street racing. With adrenaline pumping, you are more likely to push too hard and not give enough time to slow down for turn or end of road! [sm=helpout.gif]
I know, I nearly rear ended a car at 110 couple years back in my '85 GT, because I was stupid. I was caught up in the moment and did not account for reactions of others to my high rate of speed. I will NEVER forget the pit in my stomach everytime I think of that night [sm=crossbonesgif.gif]

Keep it to the local 1/4 speedway where the atmosphere is more controled. Win or lose, you will race the correct way

Well this place is like a track. It's private property some guy that we know owns and its about a 3/4 mile stretch. That should be enough for a 1/4 drag no?

look inside his car for a boost guage and an air/fuel gage. not the stock boost gause either. if he has thos chances are he has a boost controller which if hes cranked up the boost he will beat you. i used to have one and it would kill gt's all day. never ran it at the track tho.

Never bet that kind of cash unless you know EXACTLY what you are up against. There is no shame in backing down from a money race. I have seen a couple modded Eagle Talons run 11's.

Is your car supercharged? Does it have the 475 upgrade? If not, I wouldn't even think about racing a car with turbo. Plus you say it has a CAI, did you get a new tune? This is an off topic question, but if you get a CAI, you do need to get a tune right? I've heard that if you don't it will run lean. Is this right?

Maybe tell him you'll race him for fun or for like $50. that's what I would do. $500 is a good bit of $$$ to wager. Also, if he offered to bet that much, his car might be really fast. If he is willing to bet that much money, maybe he knows for sure he can beat you.

let us know what happens...

P.S. If you do race, be safe...
